I called them that Wednesday and the first girl I spoke with said they could refund my miles and put me on a different flight for the following week. That was just great and peachy until she transferred me to the refund dept. Second girl said she couldn't refund me since my flights hadn't been cancelled. I explained to her what the first girl told me, that I was going on business so there would have been no purpose in me flying up there with the training being cancelled, and that either the first girl was lying to me or they needed to communicate their policies better. I may have gone a little over the top, but after putting me on hold for 10 minutes she informed me that she had been "authorized" to refund the original flight. All I could think was damn right you have been. Sometimes you can't take no for an answer.
So you waited until after your flights happened to retroactively reschedule your flights and wonder why they are reluctant to assist you? They couldn't sell that seat because you had bought it.

RE: More travel problems
As someone who flies extensively (130,000+ miles per year) - you are lucky you got a refund. If you don't show up for your flight and don't cancel it, you forfeit that flight. It is now worthless. You have to cancel your flight before it takes off or you are normally out of luck.
They were probably generous to you because of Sandy but you really should have called to cancel your flight before it took off. Normally it would have been zero refund and no future flight.
