It could actually be argued that the Final Four team itself was a "rebuilding" team. They lost Larry Sanders and finished 5th in the CAA that year and really caught a break to even get in the tournament. Meanwhile, our rebuilding year appears to be headed to at least a 1-6 start to at least a 1-11 start if we don't get by W&M.
That's not rebuilding......that's a demolition of a program. We have no frontcourt to speak of coming back next year other than McEwen and Anichebe and Ross if you want to count a 6"5 guy as a power forward but we STILL haven't recruited a real front court guy yet (and no a 6"7 string bean from Canada that sounds like Nick Wright jr. doesn't count).
We need to stop using the word rebuilding. We aren't building towards anything other than become a whipping boy in conference USA.
New Conference, New Coach......that's the new motto.....print it, trademark it, copywrite it, whatever......just get Blaine out!!

RE: Silver Linings
4th, not 5th.
The 27-win CBI championship season is the one in which we finished 5th. We finished 4th in 2011.
Those were hardly rebuilding years in my opinion. We just had trouble in-conference with some very good Mason and ODU teams and Northeastern having their good stretch with Janning, Allen, Adako, Ojougboh etc.
Our OOC performances and RPI were very respectable both years.

Razor man, you should put in some TL;DR at the end. Haha. I wouldn't go as far to sell my VCU tickets. But I am not optimistic.

If you want to go to the Ted and listen to VCU VCU VCU chants for 2 straight hours while we get destroyed by a much more talented, much better coached team, that's your choice. I really don't want to put up with that garbage.
If I thought we even had a 5% chance I'd go. But with 2 freshman guards, Batten on the bench half the game and no front court whatsoever, nah, I'm good thanks.
I'll take the cash.
Although getting to yell at Taylor about how VCU is embarrassing us on our own home court would be something........I guess?

Pretty much exactly how I feel. It's just a shame that he's going to have to run our team into the ground before our very eyes for it to happen.
Next season's gonna be ugly, we do realize that there are 5 and 4 star recruits signing at conference usa schools right? The recruiting has to change or this program is already dead.

I consider it a mildly good sign that bad officiating has at last resurfaced as something to gripe about.
(B.t.w., if those were in fact CAA refs last night, the I am fully signing on with the Yeager-conspiracy theorists.)

What schools and what players?
And do not include schools who will not be in CUSA next year.

1 appears semi-retired (3 games in last 2 seasons), 1 was a SWAC/ Southland ref, the third does a little bit of every conference in the eastern half of the country.

UTEP is recruiting really well. Outside of that, once the group departs for the Big East next year, I still say it'll be on par with the CAA that included VCU.

RE: Silver Linings
With ECU gone, ODU now has the biggest budget in CUSA. Meh.
