Exclamation Power 5 vs Group of 5: if you thought there was cheating before...
Commissioners to meet on format
http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...ame-format

Power 5:
SEC
Big Ten
Big 12
Pac-12
ACC

Group of 5:
Big East
Conference USA
Mountain West
Sun Belt
Mid-American

Another difference between the new format and the current BCS system is revenue distribution will include an academic component rewarding football programs that meet the NCAA's APR guidelines. Starting in 2014, teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR or a 940 average over the most recent two years or they will be penalized a "significant" amount, a source said. Those benchmarks also are required to participate in NCAA championships.

It's already been proving that most of the Power 5 magically have no problems with APR progress despite recruiting players who are least prepared to enter college

At least one thing this fixes is giving the highest ranked "new" non-AQ automatic access. In reality though, this is no different than today, where you have to be ranked higher than the Big East champ to get in.

I have interviewed some former SEC players for jobs. No names but all I will say is dumber than a box of hammers. Now I have run across some pretty good Auburn engineers to be fair.

"The Group of Five is the so-called non-BCS schools (Mountain West, Big East, MAC, Sun Belt, Conference USA) that were seeking a guaranteed spot in the system. The highest-ranked of those teams beginning in 2014 will play in what will probably be one of the three access -- or open -- bowls."

The problem now is scheduling. The AQ schools are already playing 1AA schools to avoid potential upsets. The BE, which should be in a position of power among the group of 5, will probably be very careful in their scheduling to assure themselves of having a higher ranked team than the rest.

The "Group of 5" is gonna be like survivor. Look for the non-Big East schools who get the BCS bid to be "drafted" to the Big East until nobody is left that is worth crap and the Big East becomes the de-facto #6.

Personally, I wouldn't mind rejoining the old C*USA.

Auburn Basketball WILL be one of the first to get the full effect of the new significant penalties after the APR comes out this May for 2012(last year). This season easily could be the barbee doll last chance to make the NCAAs

I have to say removing the Big East's automatic status at least gives everyone else a fair chance. I wish the NCAA would get rid of IAA counting towards bowl totals or just prevent schools from playing them.
