I'd say Texas but it's too conservative for most stars, and Clint Eastwood doesn't like the heat anymore.

Northern California still rocks IMO.
Move Hollywood to Hollywood Florida. :)

The porn industry is about 50% moved down there now. Pervy eyes on South Beach who spot a conspicuously expensive looking camera have probably a 90% shot it is porn pre-roll filming in progress.

"Increased the state income tax levied on annual earnings over $250,000 for five years."

So the entire state got together and decided to tax a small number of people to pay for others to have stuff.

I would say let the Hollywood liberal elite reap the benefits of their policies ... but just like big business and the big businessmen they're leaving the state too.

Don't worry the fed will bail out CA..

That is the problem.
I have yet to see anyone at the federal level that even pretends to care about California. California is nowhere close to a swing state, is close to last in its primary elections, has senators that are in perfectly safe seats, and for whatever reason, house representatives that seem to put party before geography. A couple of years ago, Pelosi straight up told the Governor that "the federal government is not responsible for the state of California's budget" after the Governor asked for more federal dollars and pointing out that the state sends more taxes to the Federal government than is spent on the state.

Technically, California is only allowed to pass balanced budgets. Usually there are lots of budget gimmicks but the end result is that even though the state has to deal with substantial deficits every year, it mostly owes money to itself. I don't think there would be the same contagion fears that caused the EU to bailout Greece. Since the state is more or less already used to defaulting on its obligations (every once in a while, it won't pass a budget, so everyone will get paid in IOUs that are due in a few months), I think that if a collapse were to occur, people won't realize how serious the situation is before it is too late.

I didn't know that. Maybe I should head down there. :) My blow up doll is getting mad at me so I better stop now before I get into too much trouble. 05-stirthepot

One of the increases is an income tax on earners over $250K. Of course people will vote for taxes on other people. This is why pure democracy is dangerous. It's the tyranny of the majority.

But it's ok to put civil rights on the ballot (marriage equality)

Link?

BTW, isn't that how Obama feels - that gay marriage should be left to the states? Since you feel this is a civil rights issue, I'm sure you must have voted for Gary Johnson instead, since he advocates gay marriage recognition at the federal level, right?

Um, gay marriage has been on the ballot in like 40 states now? I don't have a particular link for that, it's just general knowledge. Been going on for like 4 cycles now.

I meant why you assumed why I felt it should be.

So, voted for Gary Johnson?

California will be fine. Rich people are willing to pay more to live in California. Have you seen the property prices in Laguna, Huntingdon Beach, San Jose, San Francisco - heck just about anywhere in liberal areas on the Cali coast. Want a two bedroom within a mile of the beach in OC or SD county..That will be 750 bucks a square foot please.

And as for the poor and middle class who are already there?

I lived in Cali for 5 years. I have no idea why the poor and middle class stay there. Its frighteningly expensive. For the rich, who are willing to pay a fortune to live in a nice place, that minor increase in taxes will not be too burdensome. Also remember that in California, property taxes are quite low.

Then who's gonna bail out the fed?

I know Romney/Ryan tried to bring it up in the campaign, but it still amazes me how the issue of the national debt is still nothing more than an abstraction for most people. One of the benefits to a Romney victory is that the Media would have had a Republican to blame for the debt, and so at least help to ensure that the issue would stay in the public eye. Now that Obama is back in, the media will continue to try to bury this as best it can. But reality has a way of slipping out of its leash. There is a great reckoning in store for this country -- involving deficit-spending, deficit-borrowing, entitlements, and foreign-held T-notes. I don't know exactly when the sh*t is going to hit the fan. My guess is within the next 7-8-9 years. But when it does -- God help the people. It won't be pretty.

That probably is what will happen, yes.

But a deliberate devaluation of the currency will cause a lot of disruption and chaos, too. The simple truth is, we've spent 50 years painting ourselves into this corner. There is no painless way out of it anymore. I happen to think that this election probably represented the last chance to stage a semi-orderly, semi-coherent, semi-rational way out of the mess. But the voters (narrowly) rejected that chance, and now we really will have to simply deal with it as best we can. To quote the fictional ex-heavyweight champion Clubber Lang: "My prediction? .... Paaaaaaain."

It would not make people stop and think because it's not the same at all.

That's like suggesting seeing someone get ran on to a race track get ran over by an indy car would be more careful crossing the street at home.

Raising the taxes on the wealthy certainly won't be a problem for them. Obviously it's hard to cut it in CA if you don't have money, but this new majority certainly isn't going to hurt their cause.
