RE: A-Sun Basketball Predictions 2012-2013
I'm looking forward to Mercer getting a piece of Upstate again! Upstate is a good team, but I believe they are a level below Mercer. As seen last year, Upstate plays poorly in Macon against Mercer themselves and in the Tournament. This will be in their heads. Mercer held Upstate to 30% FG, 15% 3PT, and Upstate themselves simply are bad at the FT line. A team that relies so heavily on one guy and can't shoot the free throws is a recipe for a letdown in a tourney.

Always nice to have the conference tournament at your home arena. I like Mercer a lot, but I'm giving the slight edge to Upstate. I can't wait to watch the Mercer-Upstate match-ups this season.

One correction re: Lipscomb -- Jacob Arnett is not back. If he were, we might have a shot at #7 in the conference.

You are absolutely right- the Spartans stunk in Macon last year. But I disagree that the Spartans are just a one-man team. The Spartans have a number of promising young players. In addition to preseason A-Sun POY #23 Torrey Craig, we have #5 Ty Greene, the reigning A-Sun freshman of the year, who is a very good shooter, and #12 Ricardo Glenn and #24 Jodd Maxey, who are becoming forces to be reckoned with inside. #15 Adrian Rogers is contributing a good bit this season as well. The Spartans are still very young and will only get better. As for FT shooting, it is kind of hit and miss...luckily we were money from the line at NKU tonight. Mercer is an excellent team, but the young Upstate team has matured from last season some and I think will be in a better position to challenge for the A-Sun title.
