True. Propelled by the media, people over the years have gotten so used to the "red state" and "blue state" terminology that each state is treated as a monolithic One.

I'd estimate that only 6 or 7 states saw one of the candidates achieve two-thirds of the votes: Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, Vermont, and maybe a couple others. In "redneck red" Mississippi it's only 55% Romney, with all the counties that border the Mississippi River (and then some) solidly blue, and "hippie blue" Oregon was only 54% Obama with the vast majority of counties red.

So IF succession ever happened, it'd be slice n' dice parts of states that spill over into other parts of states - county by county - I'd imagine. But this is all just shooting in the breeze.

Quote:MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- A dead pig clad in a Mitt Romney T-shirt was left at a Republican campaign office in Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach Police had to discard the pig's head and its feet in a trash bin, but not before several passersby saw it.

"I thought it was a dead body because of the way he approached it," said Manhattan Beach resident Andy Gaeta. "And then when he lifted the shirt, he saw the head wrapped in barbed wire and it's cut in half, the whole skull was. It looked like something from a butcher's market."

Why is it when I read something like this do I suddenly recall Paul Krugman's column/lecture on the right-wing's lack of civility in political discourse...?

If you'll look at the area for MS, LA, AR, TN.. You can literally follow the Mississippi River. In that part of Mississippi it's a high concentrate of African American people. That's the Delta. That's the part of the state that tests poorly on these education tests, but can produce some great football players. It's a very poor area for both whites and blacks. There are a few successful whites and blacks there, but not many.
