Build a big open ended stadium (35-50k) facing the Elizabeth River(it could be gorgeous and it would be right next to the practice facilities).

That would be ideal, but I don't think that could be done in a single offseason.

An Oregon offense with a U-dub stadium. Nice.

I think someone mentioned a similar idea, but what if the stadium is moved closer to Hampton Blvd. Ainslie could still be used, and expanded. [attachment=4710] Check out the attachment.

I'd prefer to keep Williamsburg Lawn intact. It's one of the few quiet green spaces on campus.

Also, for anyone interested, they're renovating the Webb Center Lobby. Here's some conceptions.

Found it interesting that Norfolk and Richmond checked in at 6th and 7th nationally last night during Game 6 of the NBA Finals. All other cities were around San Antonio or Miami with the exception of OKC, Memphis and Indianapolis.

That's pretty common with our area and another strong sign that this area is hungry for high level sports.

I wonder how the failed attempt to lure an NBA Franchise will positively affect our plans for stadium expansion?

Thanks for posting... but, did these high-powered architects do anything to Webb center other than change the color of the furniture? I mean, it looks exactly the same as when I graced the halls in the mid-90s... oh, I guess they painted those big squares blue on the 2nd floor.

Looks like they are trying to make space by dumping a lot of the furniture. Also it appears that they may be adding hardwood floors. To be honest, they may not want to do too much until the master plan has been finalized.

More than likely won't do much structurally and they maybe just handed it over to their Interiors design team and give it a facelift? Are they calling it a renovation?

It could be that the end of the fiscal year is approaching and they had some designated money to either use or lose.

ODU Master Plan
Does anyone know why the new Engineering building that had a concept image with this front (which looks like white plastic to me)

.jpg  ImageUploadedByTapatalk1371842346.601043.jpg (Size: 207.21 KB / Downloads: 115)

Has an exterior like this?

Which looks like concrete pavers to me. Maybe they'll put something else on top of the concrete front but the blocks look finished to me. With rounded corners and whatnot.

Having worked at an A&E firm now for 5 years it's absolutely astonishing to me how many times those renderings and conceptual drawings change before the final product.

None of this architecture will age well. I wish we'd just go back to the traditional look of Rollins and Spong Halls.

Disagreed. Buildings like the Physics and Oceanography building and the Engineering and Computational Sciences building look fantastic. Spong and Rollins look good but I would not want them as the permanent architecture style of the University. When I think ODU architecture I think Brick, Glass and Stainless Steel, and that looks good.

I agree with BT, I also think that large buildings that must be built would look ridiculous in the old brick style, we struggle for room on campus as it is, we need these modern buildings and I think that they are complimentary to the older ones. The Oceanography wing of OCNPS is relatively old but it still looks nice, I work there and it's a great building. I hope they can build a new chemistry building on the other side of Elkhorn and put a bridge over to OCNPS; that'd be great.
