RE: ODU Master Plan
Dredging up this topic again. Looked on the ODU master plan page (odu.edu/masterplan), and they've updated it with some very interesting PDF files.

This link shows current value and potential planning of the campus. (LINK)

This link shows floodplains and what would happen if the water level rises. (LINK)

And this one goes over what was said at the Listening Sessions (LINK)

RE: ODU Master Plan
Good find Blue Trombone.
One thing you'll notice is the field behind Larchmont Elementary School, is marked as potential partnership with the city in the future for ODU. The city of Norfolk knows Larchmont is very old, getting dated, too small and needs to be replaced. We are at a crossroad with Foreman Field, do we spend a ton to upgrade Foreman Field and get maybe an expansion to 35K. That would be the max we could put in the present location. Going that direction we would be locked into that for many years. Or do we work with the city, acquire the Larchmont land and build a new stadium. The plus with that plan is we build new (sometimes cheaper than renovating) and we can still play in Foreman Field while building. The bad is we abandon the $25mil we just spent on the Gameday Building and it may take longer to complete. This is the conversation that the school is having with the design team. If we do expand Foreman Field maybe we can use the Larchmont Field to tailgate.

Hey, how would you like to see a basketball game played at Foreman Field!?! An early Nov. game with temps in the 60s would be sweet!

I've said from the beginning if we had the cash to build the stadium at WHRO/School locations and convert Foreman Field to a 20K seat arena.

as a football fan/supporter I would love this deal. However, I could see a lot of community back lash from tearing down a school to build a new stadium. I guess we have to assume that any plan like this involves the city building a new school somewhere else with some help from ODU?

I talked about this in another thread. We already have 4 years of use on the 25 million. By the time a new stadium is built, we will have played another 3 years minimum at FF for a total of at least 7 years. We can walk away from that. Remember, that the parking garage was part of that 25 million and that will remain in use. Revert the field back to grass and use FF as the new Soccer Stadium. Create a softball stadium where the current soccer stadium is and we are complete.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Its sad to say but fraim supports only vmi and odu expansion is low on his list. Yes he wore all vmi colors when we played them and didn't stand on odu sidelines at all during the game. He doesn't support this at all.

For the parking woes...the rickshaws would love to get on campus to help with the traveling between lot but at 50% of the pedal money we won't touch it.

Let's hope odu makes smart decisions on coaching and the master plan. Fyi utsa attendance or size doesn't matter. Not a true college stadium. Its the aladome not owned by the university. Shouldn't be included in any attendance guidelines.

RE: ODU Master Plan
You got to be kidding the Major and the city supports ODU bigtime. It's their idea to move/upgrade the school. We wouldn't be able to do half the stuff we do without them. ODU is worth $750mil to the area and the city knows its a win win to see us grow.

Volleyball makes more sense. No need for a softball stadium. They'll have the old basketball facility once the new one is constructed. You could turn FF back to field hockey/lacrosse & get more land for football practice/indoor facility.

Last I heard the scoreboard at the TED is too low for volleyball so they need a new building (share the practice facility?) or somewhere renovated.

Softball is in the master plan document for space needed.

I just assumed they'd be using the current practice facility as the Volleyball court. In the Old Master Plan softball was going to be across from the SRC and next to Dominion House. According to the new master plan info those buildings are scheduled to be demolished anyways.

Volleyball & wrestling will use current practice facility as a competition site. Just need to add bleachers. Much cheaper option than softball.

It's going to be June at the earliest for this, and that's just from a release of the general campus plan, I'm not sure to what extent we'll see ideas for what it will look like. I'd expect it's just going to be confirmation of whether or not we'll upgrade Foreman Field or replace it.

I agree with you though, a shiny stadium plan would get everyone excited, but if there's one thing that I can say about ODU campus building and plans is that they do it well and I'm happy to wait for what I'm sure will be some great ideas.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Not that its anything official but, this is the second recent mention that I have come across that suggests that our coaching staff is under the impression that Forman will be expanded.

"[The coaches] told us they are planning to expand the stadium into a horseshoe."

See Lakwon's comments about half way through the article:

http://olddominion.247sports.com/Article...ion-124627

Another mention by another recruit:

"We toured the campus which was really nice and clean,” Fenner said. “A lot of the campus seems very brand new, and the coaches told us about the plan to expand the stadium to 35,000 - 45,000 fans or so.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Last week an ODU prospect mentioned...........

"They showed us the new prototype helmets, flat navy with the ODU logo in the outline of the state of Virginia. They said they are going to use that helmet this upcoming season."

After checking out the football facilities, the prospects were given a tour of the campus.

"We toured the campus which was really nice and clean,” Fenner said. “A lot of the campus seems very brand new, and the coaches told us about the plan to expand the stadium to 35,000 - 45,000 fans or so. The school was nice, it is very close to home, but it was nice. The campus is right in my back yard, it is about 20 minutes from my house, but I liked it. The coaches were very respectful of all of the recruits that came to visit. I could see myself playing there and staying in state."

Sat. 4/6 ODU was to have a few other recruits on campus. anyone heard anything....

If Selig handles stadium expansion like he did the BB coach search, we'll probably get new flags and a couple more port-a-potties.
