The whole area is old indian grounds.
Historical irony. In the early 1600's Powhatan's soothsayers and magicians told him to beware of enemies coming from the East. Powhatan sent his army to completely decimate the Chesapeake Indians (to his East). A few years later English landed in VABCH and then moved up to Jamestown.

I guess I wasn't specific in my post. Don't they need to determine it's Pamunkey Tribe's grounds?

I seriously doubt they overlooked that major point. Do you really think they would be ready to spend all that money if they didnt think that they could prove they are ancestral lands?

I also wouldn't take the ex-chief's word for it. He's not involved and may have some axe's to grind.

Interesting. Still seems like it would be hard to prove it belonged to a particular tribe, I'm mostly curious how that's done. Not trying to nay-say. I think it would be awesome to have. Just seems more difficult than it looks on the surface.

You raise a good point. I have no idea how they can even begin to prove what may or may not be Pamunkey land.

New apartment development proposed in December on 38th Street, opposite The Next at ODU. City Planning recommendation on January 11th;

Its a step up. Though Id rather see townhouses, this is still a nice improvement. I like what was done with Bolling Square. I wish more developers would follow that style. Its much more timeless, classy, and feels more "neighborhoody".

Great news for Hampton Blvd. Much needed and getting rid of crappy properties.

You aren't going to be getting upscale townhomes like Bolling Square on this block of 38th Street any time in the near future. These apartments are probably a best case scenario.

Yeah, but this feels more city-y. This has good density so hopefully it can spur on more development around it. I also don't see students (which I have to imagine is a big market these guys are going after) renting out townhouses.

Does anyone know how "The District" is doing these days? I know it opened to much fanfare and then got some terrible press. Has it rebounded and become desirable again? This looks similar to me.

The change of ownership was good one.

Did the school ever start referring students there again?

After looking at the application, it appears 13newsnow is being a tad misleading. The road will remain open, it will just be narrowed;

Referring to Bluestone Ave. as a "major" roadway is a bit of a stretch too!

CIAA moves to Baltimore. Probably better for Norfolk that this skips town. Brought way more negativity to Charlotte than any positives.
