Don't forget they just spent lots of money renovating "Monarch Hall" yet the documentation still says it's slated to be tore down soon.

Yes, temporary improvements dont mean the building/space is going to be around for another 10+ years. I think this all part of a plan of how to move around student services during construction of new spaces.

I would assume with all the money and time they are spending renovating it that it would be a while before they tore it down.

Perhaps they'll just do it in sections, since it allows the continual use of a vital building to campus.

I don't understand that either. Why spend the money renovating when they are supposed to tear it down and make a nice new center there sometime soon? Thought that was already approved? Whatever they do, just make it beautiful and worthy of being the signature building of a top tier national university. Or at least better than CNU, JMU etc.

They likely realize they won't be able to rebuild it for a while. So you make renovations to better fit your needs and extend the useful life of the building.

Its difficult to manage for sure because you don't want to spend too much, but you also can't let it just completely fall apart.

Interesting article I came across back from 2011. WS has a plan for a new baseball stadium on his desk but with other projects happening im sure this is still on the back burner. I would love to see Justin Verlander step in and help out ODU and build a Verlander Stadium but that is a long shot at this point. Either way, ODU needs a new baseball stadium.

We are slowly making the Bud a new stadium, renovation by renovation.

7 years ago. Wow. ODU had a lot of momentum and positive energy back then. Teams were winning, school pride was at its peak, academics were getting better recognition, fans and donors were excited. There was vision and energy. Somehow that seems to have stalled. Hope we get back on track soon.

We almost doubled the record for single year donations last year.

I'm on a constant string of on-site interviews all over the country for the next 2 weeks. I'll try and swing by the campus and get some more pictures if I have a chance.

As far as I understand, what you listed are the only capital projects.
IIRC you posted the links a while back to RFP's or state approval for some of these projects. In one of them was a health sciences building. I think it called for the demo of the education building (now monarch hall). I have not seen or heard any changes to that plan.

The Strome Entrepreneurial Center is getting a make over on the inside. I saw signs posted on all the lockers to have them emptied due to their removal. Also a number of the classrooms had been stripped down in preps for the reno.

Athletic donations? If that is the case then that is great... But the other side of the coin is that does the main who obviously knows how to raise it also know how to spend it?

That is the case. ODAF raised over $12 million in CY17;

That is the same spot (in front of Starbucks) in the Webb that had cracks in the flooring. Might have something to do with being able to feel the building flex when you are standing on that side of the building.

"Old Dominion University will welcome the community to its new Barry Art Museum on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

The University will host a lunchtime reception for faculty and staff from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A public open house is planned from 4 to 7 p.m."

"The two-story museum's first exhibition will feature the art given by the Barrys.

Their collection reflects three main areas: international glass sculpture, 20th-century American modernist paintings, historic fashion dolls and European automata.

In addition to art donated by the Barrys, the museum will feature a few works by current and former ODU faculty including A.B. Jackson, Charles Sibley and Fay Zetlin, and gifts by local donors. A gallery space is dedicated to educational activities for children and young adults developed by the ODU's Center for Educational Partnerships."

I'm excited to see it! Anybody else plan on heading out on opening day?
