Absolutely. The movement of these restaurants to North Colley is driven by business owners who want to be close to Ghent and downtown without paying Ghent or downtown rent. This is further illustrated by the restaurants that have opened on Granby in Riverview; Clementines and Blanca. Both are way out of the price range for students and a lot of staff. The same goes for most of what's on North Colley; Nouvelle, Hanks, Fellini's, Starving Artist, Chow and LeGrand.
Dirty Buff, Mack's (which is struggling), Sams, UPie and Cogans are the only ones where you'll see students at with any regularity. And apart from UPie, they still don't make up much of the customer base.

What NORFOLK and ODU needs desperately is to improve the areas between Village and N Colley.

It's happening. Have you seen all the apartment buildings going up?

The landlord has a choice to make between letting the USPS come back or moving forward with Reaver. From what I have gathered, I expect them to select the brewery. If it happens, it will open around next football season.
This would be another great addition to North Colley, which is close to officially being named the North Colley Business District

Area news
Cool, I dislike Aldi but it's nice to see something moving in that space. I miss Farm Fresh, it was the sweet spot for me in terms of quality, selection and price. The other nearby options make me sad in the wallet (Fresh Market and Harris Teeter) or sad in the tummy (Food Lion).

The same group started NoCo, so I can't imagine them ditching that as the nickname.

That would be a good get by Norfolk. That tournament is very well attended, would be a great boost to the local economy. And I don't think it'd interfere with the MEAC/Potential C-USA tourney in the future.

Charlotte has had it for years. It does bring money but there is always something negative that surrounds it every year. Brings a lot of crime. Multiple shootings every year. Most locals stay out of uptown Charlotte that weekend because of the crime and traffic.

If I had to guess, it'll end up in Baltimore. They have more corporate support to tap into.

IIRC the CIAA was held for years and years in Norfolk and I don't remember ever hearing anything about an uptick in crime. When it was here it was a very upbeat affair.

An old job of mine was across the street from Chrysler Hall/Scope. Norfolk did a great job of keeping the crime stuff quiet.
The thing that got me was the complete disregard for private property by attendees. They parked in any available spot, public or private. I had a crap ton of cars towed each year. Got two different Jaguars in the same year!! At least the Jaguar owners parked in lined spots. But every year I worked there at least two cars just parked and blocked in our employees cars. In one instance, I had the tow truck called before those folks had even finished walking off our property. We had a sign posted so people could call to get their vehicles.
Now after office hours no problem. I just had to always stay to make sure all our employees could get out.
It might now sound like it but I hated doing it. But my boss didn't want to catch heat. He would tell Norfolk officials "My manager was just doing what he thought was right. I'll talk to him". His talk to me was, "Good Job!"

It's not city property, IMO you have nothing to tell them. The city should have proper parking for events, or work a deal with the near by buildings to establish a parking program.
I would have no problem towing people. They are choosing to disrespect you and everyone else around them. As a result they get to pay the A-hole tax.

If the city extends the tide to the airport like they plan, you could go directly from there to the casino.
I'm really interested to see how this plays out. I don't really have an opinion formed yet on if I like the development or not. I like the building in the rendering but I highly doubt that that is the one they'd build even if they do choose Norfolk.

I would be all for it, but it sounds like there's a lot of hurdles to clear still. It needs to be determined that it's old Indian grounds... that seems difficult. The ex-chief called it a longshot. I would think this thing is far from certain.

The whole area is old indian grounds.
Historical irony. In the early 1600's Powhatan's soothsayers and magicians told him to beware of enemies coming from the East. Powhatan sent his army to completely decimate the Chesapeake Indians (to his East). A few years later English landed in VABCH and then moved up to Jamestown.

I guess I wasn't specific in my post. Don't they need to determine it's Pamunkey Tribe's grounds?

I seriously doubt they overlooked that major point. Do you really think they would be ready to spend all that money if they didnt think that they could prove they are ancestral lands?
