RE: ODU Master Plan
Update for the location for the Health Sciences Building from the latest addendum.

"Building Site Location: The general location is anticipated to be a greenspace currently near Hampton Blvd. The selected A/E will be notified of the final location prior to the start of the programming effort. "

Looks like we could be losing a tailgaiting lot.

Hmm that would be the closest(geographically) ODU academic building to EVMS . Taking off my spin glasses now.

RE: ODU Master Plan
Does ODU own the lot in front of Norva Plastics? Because they could just turn that into the new Monarch Village lot. I'll check NorfolkAIR.

Pretty sure we own all the greenspace except for Norva plastics, central radio and those apartments.

Correct. It's a shame we didn't plan to build dorms or educational buildings over there. That lawsuit would have never happened in that case.

Said this was the case 2 months ago when we were discussing stadium sponsorship. They did virtually nothing to make this community better. I will add NS basically is saying Norfolk is not good enough for them. Sad....

Odd that is only now making the news. There has been a sign up with a picture of the building for at least a month.
But yeah it's good stuff to see the area build up.

That statement could not be further from the truth. Over the years NS has contributed millions of dollars to local arts, education, and public welfare programs. That is one of the reasons this would be a tremendous loss for the entire region.

I did some digging a while ago and it's somewhere in my post history. There have been several people from Norfolk Southern that have given money to ODU from their own pockets, some have given quite a lot.

I was speaking from a corporate perspective. I am well aware that many people working for or affliaited with NS have contributed to ODU.

Agreed - devastating news for our community. Norfolk leadership is going to take heat for not being in front of this.

RE: ODU Master Plan
I would have thought Norfolk leadership would have had close relationships with key NS leaders in order to get in front of this - and would be discretely letting them know Norfolk would counter any reasonable offer by ATL. This situation is unfathomable unless ATL is overpaying to get NS to relocate its headquarters. If so, ATL taxpayers will have to foot the bill for overpaying.

RE: ODU Master Plan
I’m very familiar with how a public company such as NS operates. Their leadership is obligated to act in the best interest of the shareholders. If ATL has an economic offer that is substantially better than Norfolk’s offer, then NS leadership is obligated to take it in the interest of the shareholders. A public company is not concerned about the community impact - just maximizing shareholder value.

Norfolk leadership should not take for granted any major employer in our area. And they should be “connected” with the key leaders in these companies. Someone important is going to take this one on the chin.
