ODU's final home game Jimmye Laycock shows his hand
The Virginian-Pilot Harry Minium blog excerpts 11/4/12 from Atlanta
But the Monarchs are also playing William and Mary, and in spite of the fact that the teams have only played twice, the rivalry between the two programs is as emotional as you’ll find in the Colonial Athletic Association.
That was apparent in the first game between the two teams, a chippy, 21-17 William and Mary victory two years ago in just ODU’s second season of football. Tribe coach Jimmye Laycock complained afterwards about a number of personal fouls called on the Monarchs.
Coach Bobby Wilder’s response? I have enough trouble coaching my own team, I don’t try to coach anyone else’s.
After ODU defeated the Tribe, 35-31, last season, Wilder raced across the field to shake Laycock’s hand. A warm hand-pumping it was not. Their hands touched for what must have been half a second before Laycock pulled his hand away and they turned in different directions.
When he was asked earlier this season during a CAA telephone press conference to say why he thinks ODU’s program has been successful, Laycock declined to answer, saying he has enough trouble keeping up with his program.
RE: ODU's final home game Jimmye Laycock shows his hand
JL is a classless son of a *****. Of all the teams in the CAA, I wish to beat W&M the most simply because of the way he's treated us. They couldn't beat us with an NFL-caliber RB, they're not beating us without one. Plain and simple. I hope we run it up on them just for Jimmye.
And that's saying something, because I don't like Mickey Matthews and I REALLY don't like Rob Ambrose, but those are two guys who I could at least have a beer with and call it a day. Jimmye, not so much.
RE: ODU's final home game Jimmye Laycock shows his hand
Most of you last year probably saw where I broke down our "dirty" play and indexed it with the video of the 2010 game that JL complained about.
It is on the W&M board.
If I remember, It turned out that that 1 or 2 of the PFs were verbal (surely would not have been called by any other crew), one was merely a sideline shoving match (probably not called by any other crew) and one, which was the only real PF, was an incidental facemask which our player let go so no injury was possible.
Laycock made a real ass of himself by accusing us of dirty play. He should have apologized.
I think the Rob Ambrose tactic of using his team to "confront' the UD team on the sideline prior to last years game, and the bush league handshake with Keeler places him very close to Laycock.
Mickey is ...well just Mickey.

I respectfully disagree.
You mentioned the "only real PF" as a facemask. You are forgetting the blatant push in the back after a play on the ODU sideline.

10:35 mark
Haha yeah, the "shove" at 10:35....we should have been put on probation for that one.
