UC not playing Louisville right now never made sense to me. It would be one thing if Louisville were playing a big time conference game (West Virginia or Pitt) or a big time non-conference game, same with UC. But to give Louisville the week off and UC a game against South Florida during rivalry week makes NO sense whatsoever. At least Louisville/West Virginia and UC/UConn could have been scheduled.

Alot of the BE conf schedule seemed out of wack this year. Like they pulled the games out of a hat.

wvu is now playing pitt in the backyard brawl on espn thanksgiving night

and that is the oldest rival game in the big east

West Virginia is playing Pitt during rivalry week....which is the way it should be

I forgot the Backyard Brawl was Thursday. Still doesn't explain why the Keg of Nails between UC and Louisville isn't played on Rivalry Week. That's more national exposure taken away from the Big East. The Louisville/Cincinnati game goes back almost 100 years. Also Rutgers and UConn were thought to be good this year, why not have them play each other this week as well? It's stupid of the Big East to put all their eggs in one basket (Pitt/West Virginia).

Seems like the BE thinks they can "manufacture" a SU-UL rivalry because the league doesn't think the "Keg" rivalry has TV drawing power. That rubs me the wrong way for sure. I guess we just have to keep proving on the field that we're more deserving of a rivalry than SU.

I whole heartedly agree, I think that UC Louisville needs to be played this week. There is history a trophy and everything.

-- No offense...but that is exactly the case....if UC/UL were played during this week it would more likely then not be completely lost in the shuffle in regards to TV exposure....The game would be the BE game of the week but that would probably be about it.....Even when UL/UC played in early Autumn the game only made ESPNU....I think a lot of TV execs percieve that the two programs are heading in different directions...UL is acquiring tremondous football talent, all of its games are sellout and staduim expansion is right down the road...UC seems to be stuck in neutral untill Dantino brings in his own players etc, fan support really hasn't improved despite the move to the BE.......Another thing that hurts the UC/UL game is that the contests have not been competitve at all in recent yrs...In other words I think the perception is there that Louiville is "growing out of" a rivalry game with UC...again not saying that is the case...but I think the percetption is there

-- The ACC raids really hurt the BE went it comes to rivalries...lost Boston College/Syracuse, WVU/Virginia Tech and Miami/Virginia Tech (all of these games were almost guranteed for national TV).....really the only rivalry game with any kind of national appeal we have now in football is the Backyard Brawl...

Jackson you've summed it up perfectly. That being said if Penn State were in the Big East we'd likely see WVU vs. Pitt this past Saturday, Penn State vs. Pitt on Turkey Day or Saturday. I'd like to see the BE try and take over Turkey Day football. UConn vs. Rutgers, UL vs. UC, and WVU vs. Pitt all in a row on National TV throughout the day.

We've been through the attendance thing a million times already... UC attendance would have been way up if it weren't for the whole Huggins fiasco. All you have to do is look to UC only drawing 8066 fans to the basketball game Saturday night to realize that there are a lot of pissed off UC fans.

As far as UC vs. UL, ESPN has put it on national TV in the past when both were in C-USA, and the game was played on Thanksgiving weekend. I don't see any reason why they would not do the same now that they are both in the Big East. Obviously WVU vs. Pitt is bigger in terms of national interest, but I think UL vs UC would hold its own.

Hell, UC and UL in basketball has been one of the highest rated regular season games in all of basketball over the past few years. UC has been a top national draw on TV for years, which is probably the prime reason why C-USA had such a good TV deal. They drew much higher ratings than the Big East teams outside of Syracuse and UCONN. Of course, UC had the Miami factor where people tuned in to root against them (due to wrong perceptions of Bob Huggins), but they still were a good TV draw.

I agree with many of your points, Jackson, but we'll see how competitive the SU-UL game is this week :D

-- If PSU were happen to come back...then I think the situation would revert to what it was in the late 80s and early 90s were Pitt/PSU would play the last week of the season and West Virginia would play Syracuse

-- nothing in what I said above applies to basketball...obviously UC/UL is in the Top 10 in hoops rivalry games around the country...its football that is the problem

Just one more quick thought......but this thread really underlines the need of UC to become a solid football school....if UC can reach the level of Boston College in terms of fan support/talent....then the lost luster of the UC/UL game is restored...and the UC/Pitt and UC/WVU games instantly have meaning and a regional interest

We'll certainly reach their level. No doubt UConn will, too. In two years, the league will forget about BC (if it hasn't already) :D

Now, I doubt the league will ever forget about Miami/VT, but (as things are looking right now) it's up to UL, USF, WVU and the rest of the top half to ease the pain.
