To our oldest rival
I for one want to say to our longest and most bitter rival that i am opposed to the future football schedule our new AD is putting together. It is beyond belief that we will see a future schedule WITHOUT USM on it. We hire a small school AD from out west who came in WITHOUT prior knowledge of our history and changed everything around. Adding schools such as Kansas and Bowling Green to our OOC schedule. The Dukes, the Kansas and Bowling Greens mean NOTHING to long time Memphis fans. They will NOT put butts in the seats. Yet he decides that since we are leaving CUSA at the end of this school year that we should cut all ties to former members. Even if those ties are the longest in our schools history. The biggest reason college sports is so exciting to so many is the TRADITIONS involved. Taking our longest rival off the schedule is the wrong move. The ole Black and Blue bowl may not be as it was in years past but it is still one of our oldest and longest rivalry games. Personally i want to keep the USM and UAB games on our schedule as OOC games. But our small school mentality AD has decided to throw that tradition away.

I would think that the games with USM and Ole Miss would be games the school would want to retain long term, no matter what conference teams are in. If by some magical occurance USM were invited to another conference, I cannot imagine USM not playing Tulane and would prefer to keep games with Memphis and East Carolina. Conference realignment has not been kind to USM.

For some reason this new small conference AD we hired does not comprehend what 63 games in the past 77 years means. Since 1952 we have played EVERY YEAR except 1980 and played twice in 1964. But that is lost on this yahoo. The majority of the living fans of these schools cannot remember a time in which they did not play each other.

Personally I don't mind losing Memphis. It really was nothing more than another game on the schedule that could be a trap game since Memphis rarely had a team likely to have a winning season. I am glad to see La. Tech come back and hope we get to play them every year since we have a rivalry with them and they show signs of being a constant winner. Oh by the way, I find your

Do tell. What is "real news?" The low-rating degenerates on MSNBC and CNN?

The Onion?
