Sorry if those are personal picks (I'm thinking not) but the author is clueless. The Insight has no choice but to take a BE team if one is available and since they have 3rd pick, they WILL be taking a BE team.

ND will be favored in their last two games and should win out, meaning they'll have the good fortune, unfortunately, of cashing in one last big BCS check before the new stipulation for a smaller Irish payout kicks in. Irish fans can begin packing their bags for Arizona weather.

I'm also extremely doubtful about Bama's chances to win at Auburn, meaning they'll move down the ladder as well, likely beyond desirable limits to the BCS.

This means OSU and Oregon are, IMO, the most likely programs to travel south for and date with the Irish.

And even then I'm not thrilled about OSU's chances this weekend... 03-wink

That's not necessarily true. Trades are made all the time. The Insight might well want to trade away a Big East school to get a Stanford vs. Fresno State matchup provided that there was a bowl in the east that was stuck with a couple of western teams and that they also wanted to make the trade. And of course, provided all four participating conferences/schools were agreeable to the trade as well.

In this case, however, I don't see where an apparent trade was made -- it appears that you lost the Insight Bowl spot without picking up anything in the east to replace it. And as such, this looks a lot like a "bash the Big East" post.

There are 56 bowl slots and it is not certain that all will be filled. Assuming that they eventually are, there are very few bowl eligible schools that will be left without a bowl. I highly doubt that the WAC would get four bids while the Big East would only get two (plus ND).

Every school would travel to any BCS Bowl that they are invited to. It is the non-BCS bowls that have the problem.

Here's my secret scenario...

First...

Fresno State: 38
USC: 31

Second, Fresno wins it's last two (televised) games and finished about #8 in the BCS rankings.

Somehow (and I'm not sure how this happens), we end up in the Fiesta Bowl paired off against Notre Dame.

We, of course, kick Notre Dame's butt.

Yoda, the BE did replace the Insight with Houston Bowl that pays more money. That bowl is East of Phoenix, and closer to all of the BE schools.

BCS
Gator/Sun
Continental
Houston

I thought there was another one but I cant remember it. Also in 2006, it looks like the Toronto Bowl may be a go.
