True. But Auburn is playing recruits who were signed for an entirely different style of football. Chizik gets another year at least to sort this mess out, at least.

Two of Chizik's best recruits(Pike and Dyer) didn't play a down for Auburn this season. How can he assure Auburn that he'll be able to control his incoming stud recruits? And he is one bad bounce away from being winless on the season. How in the world can Auburn keep him?

And whose decision was it to change systems?

All his decision. And there's no guarantee that he'll be able to control them. Nature of the beast. But two years removed from a national championship and a potential top 5 recruiting class has afforded him another year. Barring a scandal involving a motorcycle, expect Gene to be on the sidelines for another year.

I thought the same thing about a week ago, but now you have Scarbinsky & Finebaum pushing the buttons on making a change.

Things are more stirred up now than they would have been a week or so ago.

Top 5 recruiting classes don't mean crap. Look at FSU. Good coaching still trumps slightly superior talent. Boise State didn't become a household name by getting the best recruits in Florida.

Really? What's his record as HC against AAMU?

I wonder if by chance Chizik is fired, will the same guy that "greeted" him at the airport (remember him?) be there when he departs?

1-3. But we've only beaten A&M 4 times since 1998.

As Yogi says "Youneverknow" ! Give Zero the big SEC checkbook to recruit and hire assistants with and let him coach at a place that will ignore any warts and player misdeeds as long as he wins. Im sure he could have fielded a winner here if UAB admissions would have looked the other way while he signed every kid that could spell BALL after you spotted them an A and two Ls.

First off, I doubt Watson Brown will ever see the FBHC job at a BCS school. But IF he was hired at UTK (perhaps on an interim basis) with their recruiting budget, he won't have to take the risky recruits that were a fact of life at UAB in the 1990s (remember "Prop 48"). There will probably be only the usual "warts and misdeeds" to ignore. Also remember that there was no "APR factor" to consider back then. The APR "boogieman" came along in the middle years of the last decade and caught both our men's sports coaches by surprise after Watson was gone.

It could be that Chizik is falling prey to the replacement assistant coach syndrome where the replacement(s) coaches simply are not as immediately good as those who were there before them. Watson Brown had that problem when he replaced coaches who were hired away from our program, many of whom are still warmly regarded by some of our posters who have suggested from time to time that they be invited to return.

On a scale of 1-10, I was Millerite Prophecy. Color me corrected.

Auburn has a stellar class (5 three stars just on defense alone) coming in.

No one is going to jeopardize that by tossing the coach and the staff those players committed to.

Chizik would have to lose to Alabama A&M by double digits for me to reassess his chances of being fired.

If you're committed to replacing a coach, you're not going to let a bunch of high school kids hold you hostage, no matter how talented they are.

Let's see if we can add to the number of Stache commits that had heavy interest from Auburn. We're already up to 2. 05-stirthepot
