RE: Eastern Michigan Attendance Problems
You know, I think Optimist has a point. I am going to write a letter to the MAC commissioner asking him to consider booting any team that has made it to the MAC title game 3 times in the last 6 years and gone winless. Nothing but dead weight and a poor representative of the MAC East.
Really I just wanted to get in before this gets locked down. And the moderator thought the other thread was trolling?

I support all the MAC teams except when they are playing NIU. If I am in the Ypsi area and there is a game, you better believe I'll be going the see EMU play. If you are not providing solutions, you are part of the problem, and no, kicking them out is not a solution.

I totally agree with you that kicking Eastern out is a ridiculous idea. And i would bet most of fellow Ohio fans would think the same. Two bad apples are definitely spoiling the reputation of the rest of us ohio fans. Sad.

Where is EMU football in 10 years? I see potential to create a winning program at every current MAC football member... Except EMU.

I wish they made it one free one per season ticket that you purchase.
I received no such free ticket for an away MAC game. Is this just for full members?
This must be a promo some schools are offering. EMU didn't do this either.

Expressing a belief is not trolling. It is hard to help people who are not willing to help themselves.

If the conference wants to "take it to a new level," its the responsibility of the top third (a fluid group, to be sure), not the bottom. The bottom teams in attendance and performance like EMU and Akron have almost no effect on the position of the MAC in the world of college football. It's all about how good the top teams are. All this thread is doing is demonstrating ignorance of how college football works. Pointless trolling.

RE: Eastern Michigan Attendance Problems
This is reminiscent of CAA/JMU fans (along with some other school's fans) debating whether URI (Rhode Island) should be a CAA team. They were supposed to go to the NEC, then when we added Stony Brook and Albany, they decided to come back when Yeager begged them.
URI's avg this year is 4,507 and is the worst of our current conference members. Future member Albany is 5,176 and the closest current member is Maine at 5,287.
Despite their likely winless season and embarrassing loss to equally awful Georgia State, many of us learn to live with them because they obviously aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
I wish EMU the best luck, but they are very much in a tough situation. However, don't call the kettle black when 4 MAC teams are below the 15k minimum currently.

A noticeable effort like paying roughly MAC-average coaching salaries over the last six years, despite having well below-average outcomes?
(Green is FBS average, blue is MAC average, red is EMU.)
A noticeable effort like building an indoor practice facility, one that's good enough that NFL teams visiting Detroit use it?
A noticeable effort like giving away iPads and notebook computers to students, and even a car (outright -- not a lease) to the general public, just for buying a $5 game ticket?
A noticeable effort like giving away tickets through local school districts and paying the districts when the tickets are used. Yeah, you read that right.
You have other ideas? Real ideas that could actually be used? Let's hear them.
Wow, I didn't know EMU was doing all that. I'm surprised more people don't show up, especially with promotions like those.

EMU's biggest problem might be this: they're not even third in their media market (metro Detroit), they're third tier. Tier 1 is the Detroit pro teams, tier 2 is the B1G teams (2a Michigan 2b Michigan State), 3 is everybody else (EMU, Wayne State, Detroit, etc.). So even when EMU does something good, on or off the court/field, most people don't hear about it.

While I don't disagree with that, what about CMU? They sell a considerable number of tickets and are literally in the middle of nowhere.
