So as they struggled mightily through the beginning of 2011 they were all blasted here by people mad at the focus and $ going to football. Same AD, same coaching staff and mostly the same roster as last year yet the geniuses right here tore them up are now singing the praises. But don't believe me, just page back to last season's posts and you'll know which phonies said what. Anyway, I hope the true fans enjoy the success the football squad is having, there are some that have been loyal a long time.

Folks can be critical without being phonies. That also wouldn't qualify them as not being a true fan. I don't know who you are pointing the finger at and don't care to go back and research it. I know that I have ALWAYS been critical, but NEVER suggested to cut funding or the program. All I ever wanted was a product to be proud of. And while we aren't pointing the finger at anyone, I do know someone who wanted to give Doug Martin more time.

WELCOME TO KENT STATE BABY!!

Where, what do we do after beating an undefeated, 15th-ranked Big East team? What do we do in the midst of a surreal 7-1 season? What do we do when we are 21-point favorites to bend the marsupials over?

We ***** at each other.

We take credit and proudly proclaim our pride in something we wanted to see shut down? LOL! The phonies know who they are. .03-shhhh

I've never advocated shutting football down, not that I need to explain that, but we need all the fans we can get. It's ok for folks to change their minds. As a matter of fact, it's great! Why complain that people have been won over to your view?

Just because football is probably my 4th favorite KSU sport doesn't mean I can't enjoy it to the fullest. I'm having fun. I don't understand how a longtime football first guy is not.

It is ok for fans to change their minds, but next time the football team loses a few it will be the same old people getting hurt jumping off the bandwagon, we saw it in 2006. Ironically, here's what we got right after the rise in 2006 faded into 2007:

BTW I'm having a ball enjoying the current swing, but then I couldn't have supported them any more in the past even in 1 win seasons and losses to DIAA schools. And again, there are some true fans here that have been weathering the storm for decades, so I hope they savor what they've held out hope for. As for the phonies, you know who you are, the guilty consciences are kicking in, no need for me to waste any more time on you.

RE: #selloutDix
I never advocating cutting the program. I did want it to be competitive, as did many others. I didn't want to drop football or drop down, but understand how others could have been so frustrated that they did.

What I remember are the days when some could advocate that consecutive 4 or 5 wins seasons were signs of progress, or that we should be satisfied with a 14 point loss because it used to be a 28 point loss, or, best yet, no one could win at KSU because of the "culture."

Well, the culture changed, man, and for the better. And some of those who were the most dissatisfied with the old culture made it happen. ( I was not among them, but some of our formerly dissatisfied fans deserve my thanks for a push for change.)

And, J.J., know what you mean. Just not going to let the crap about "real fans" and "phonies" stand.

Also, I'm planning a watch party in Raleigh, so is there a time change for possible television showing?

I have been so disappointed so many times with attendance that should have been a sellout, that I will only believe it when I see it. If Akron had a better record, chances for a sellout would be greater.

I'm interested in seeing how our fans react to quality football. I was shocked at the lack of following that went to BG in 2008 after the b-ball team actually did get ranked. I'm hopeful though that with NEOH being a football area, we can have a pretty massive turnout. If it wasn't for the 3 feet of snow in WV, I might consider hauling up I-77 again.

RE: #selloutDix
Fans might think it's the same old story, the Flashes tease us with hints of brilliance and then falter as in the past. But this team, staff is different and you can feel it. Just think that many are realizing a little too late with the short number of home games on the football slate this year.

If you have a winner or consistently competitive teams the fans will come out and stay in most kinds of weather. But for the most part, I have found even with the success of KSU basketball many fans are apathetic. Wouldn't you love to have the kind of raucous crowd of students that show up to Utah State games. Check out their videos...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YUnOoye58

For the most part I think all the MAC schools experience the same kind of attendance problems with the exception of OU football, but the Convo is so big their hoops crowds look small.

So far the weather for saturday is cold but no rain. Hopefully this stays true and we stay dry this weekend but I wonder how the temp will affect people's decision to come out and support this team. It seems like we need all the stars to align to get decent crowds. A good team and the fact that its Akron should be enough. But 40 degree weather will keep people away. I think its a lost cause trying to get people to come out and show their support for the best team in school history

After the mass exodus at Homecoming, I think people will be more willing to go and stay. I'm sure everyone that left because of the rain were pretty upset about missing that 4th quarter.
