RE: School forces RFID on students
This could be really helpful. Kid says they are going to the bathroom and hit the boy's locker room for a quick score of wallets. You could see if the kid went to the bathroom every class period. A Johnny Jackoff who likes to wander the halls. Believe it or not kids test weaknesses in the system. Their like the Velociraptors in Jurrassic Park. Always checking the electric perimeter. If you have a unruly school and things need to be tightened down I could see value here. Anything to improve the test scores right Torch?

So the government is going to mandate that a kid attend school AND THEN mandate their movements be tracked. I think there was a book written about this once.

Tighten down on kids test scores and you tighten down on the kid. 20 years ago if a kid decided to be a jackwad you let him face the consequences. Today it's the schools fault if the kid screws around. Don't complain when the schools try to be innovative to make sure kids are getting their seat time. Cause and Effect.

Maybe they should just chain kids to their desks.
The left's love of control is always disturbing to me.

You're off by about 40 years.

Wait, the schools insisted on having that purview, and that their progressive teaching styles would solve all those problems. So yeah, I think criticism is well deserved, especially when the schools now emulate the structures they lobbied to replace.

RE: School forces RFID on students
So on one hand we support making schools AND TEACHERS responsible for how a kid learns. You want MY pay to be determined on the outcome of the patient. Truant Kid. Schools Fault. Kid wants to be out of class all the time. Teacher's fault.
On the other hand we have a technology that can help organize the data and potentially help the situation out and we complain.
*** Side Note**** I think you could have the same effect with a Key Fob or a Magnetic Card. Just have the kid scan or swipe his card when he comes into a classroom and leaves. You would get the same result but try to understand the schools argument once in awhile. I could see the benefit of this in a large district.

Why stop there? Let's strap cameras to their foreheads to make sure they are paying attention to their teachers and reading their textbooks. Anyone whose eyes wander too much will be diagnosed with ADHD and forced to take Ritalin.

How about an electric zapper tied to everyone's seat. Nothing too painful but gets the job done.

Once again, it's the educational establishment that demanded that opportunity, and the funding to go with it. The right is just insisting that it take the responsibility too.
If it can't get the job done, then fess up and concede the need for change.

I'm not complaining, I'm criticizing. Educational institutions are prisons. Not figuratively, but literally. And it's not the right that's saying this, it's the far left, who at least can tell when people are failing to meet their utopic expectations.

Or a shackle. 21st C technology to match the 19th C factory slave system.

Isn't that essentially do at private religous schools? I don't see why you think it is such a problem when others try to do so.

i see Mach's point on this and think the FOB is reasonable. I also think that part of the problem (besides bad parents) is that teachers have been neutered in what they can and can't do in a classroom. Maybe some schools can get away with old, calm, angelic teachers. But some of these inner school kids respect no one, especially someone - a teacher - who can't do very much when the kids become disrespectful or threatening.
Mach is a teacher and maybe that biases his thought process on this subject, But then again he would be the subject matter expert so we should listen to his thoughts and give them credence. I am.
