The Zone
So let's say the starting line up for the Men's Hoops season is:
Ray Lee at 6'3
Daylen Harrison at 6'6
Glenn Bryant at 6'7
Jamel Harris at 6'9
Da'Shonte Riley at 7'0
That's a line up that averages 6'7...
The zone could be NUTS
And with all the size down low, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Derek Thompson has a near or flat out record setting year from beyond the arc.
Call me a homer... But hey...

RE: The Zone
as long as the big fellas can close out on 3 point shooters quickly enough (and with that height they don't even need to move THAT quickly) our zone should look really nice. imagine trying to pass through the paint with Bryant, Harris and Riley in the way. sounds like a nightmare.
i'm really looking forward to finally seeing what Harrison and Bryant look like on the court. it was painful to watch them sitting at the end of the bench all last season. (although, Bryant's Darvin Ham-like enthusiasm was a lot of fun)

RE: The Zone
I was gonna start a basketball thread to brighten the spirits of the board's faithful, especially after all this depressing football talk, but I'm glad you beat me to it.
Another thing we have that wasn't necessarily a luxury last year is front court depth. Anytime Harris or Riley (often both) got in foul trouble last year, our athleticism up front depleted quite a bit. Now we have James Still, plus Bryant can play the 4 easily. We have a lot of options where we can go big or small, depending on matchups.
If Lee can run an effective point (he's not a true point guard, but that's not a bad thing), and guys like Harrison, Thompson, or Bryant (or even Lee) can pick up the scoring slack, I think we'll go to a postseason tournament. Those are the two biggest question marks, and I think we have the talent to answer them.

RE: The Zone
Guys I tried to start a 2012 hoops thread but it didn't get any traction.

You jealous? :-)
It should be a fun year. I'm looking forward to see what Murphy does with the offense now that he has more weapons.

Our goal this year is to fill the south end lower bowl to capacity with students/Eagle Nation members. After the success we have had with memberships for Football season (300+ members now), I think this is very possible to accomplish, especially with a winning team. We might even be able to pull off and upset or two and really draw some good attention to the program. However, I don't want to be overly optimistic......like almost all of us were for Football.

RE: The Zone
i think the key for us will be patience over the length of the season. Lee, Harrison, Bryant and possibly Still will play major minutes but have yet to see the court for EMU. there will be some growing pains this season.

God, I hope EMU is good this year. The football team has been a real drag. I am desperate for the MBB to be the real deal.

I look forward to much larger crowds at the Convo.
