Hi pirates4life thanks for the score. ECU usually has a really good baseball team how are they looking so far and how does the rest of conference USA look?

No problem. We have played a really really tough schedule during the early part of the season. We started off the season a bit rough with the series at College of Charleston who is in the top 25 we took 1-2 and had a lead in the 9th before our bull pen gave it up. We are currently without 2 of our starters so our pitching hasnt been that great but our hitting has made up for it. We lost 7 players from last years team to the majors but we have brought in a talented group of freshman. Including a player that actually signed with LSU out of high school Jay Mattox. He hurt his shoulder but hopefully will be back soon. We opened our new stadium this weekend and it is top notch all the way. If you would like pics I would be more than happy to show you some. 4 of our 7 wins are against top 25 teams and we have an RPI in the top 5. We havent been really given much respect from the polls but that will change if we keep winning. As far as the rest of the league goes it looks really strong especially next year. Rice won the national championship 2 years ago, UCF is ranked, ECU is usually ranked, Tulane which i know is your rival and you have games coming up this weekend against them they are number 1, TCU is leaving but they are ranked, USM was ranked last year and is a solid club, UAB which isnt really known for baseball actually beat LSU, Houston is a solid program. So their arent many really bad teams and it should be one of the best conferences as far as baseball goes. I would put the SEC and maybe the ACC and possibly the Pac-10 ahead of C-USA. The ACC to me is way overrated. So far this year they are 0-2 against us and UNC lost all 3 games they played this weekend. Best of luck the rest of the year and I know you guys always have a solid club. I hope both teams can meet in the post season hopefully in Omaha.

We're off to a pretty decent start at 7-3, but the SEC is brutal, and repeating as champions will be incredibly tough. I still think we have a decent shot at getting back to Omaha.

Hi pirates4life thanks for the update on ECU and the rest of conference USA. Sorry to hear 2 of your starting pitchers are out and that ECU has had a bit of a rough start but I wouldnt worry about it. Those first 20 games of the season or to figure out those kind of problems. I dont usually put much stock in them since coaches are trying to figure out their starting pitcher rotations and line ups I hope your coach can figure out all your teams problems now so your team is playing great in your conference play which counts the most. So far what I have heard it looks like conference USA is solid in baseball once again. I saw where LSU played a series against Houston and won 2 out of the 3 games. They looked very young with alot of potential but need another year or two to develope into a very good team. Also their coach looks like they gave them a brutal schedule. I didnt get to see the series between LSU and AUB which we took 2 out 3 games from them as well. So, since I dint see them play I really couldnt get a read on them on how good of a team they are. Now for Tulane we will be playing them this Tuesday in Baton Rouge. I like this rivary game because people get really emotional involved with it and I am hopeing that it breaks the all time attendance record at Alex Box Stadium which is 8,622 when LSu played ULL on 4/11/00. I am glad this Tulane rivary has replaced the ULL rivary since LSU and ULL dont play each other after a certain incident I think. However sadly I think I have to give Tulane the edge in this game from what I have heard they have been playing more consistant baseball this year than LSU. Well anyway please fell free to give me your commits about the SEC or conference USA baseball?

Its sounds like Georgia is getting off to a good start at 7-3 and yes your right the SEC is very brutal and likes to beat the snot out of each other. It also looks like Georgias first conference game is against LSU. Well best of luck to your team until March 18 roles around and care to make any predictions on that series?

Tulane is a tough ballclub but you could have an advantage playing at home. The key is probably getting on top of them early and getting the crowd involved. Anything can happen in baseball and It wouldnt suprise me one bit to see LSU win. I love those rivalries where emotions get involved as long as it isnt taken overboard. We have several of those type rivalry games. We play NCSU 3 more times and UNC twice so you best believe the CLS will be rocking for those home games. We have actually broken our attendence record twice this past weekend. THere probably would have been more if it wasnt for the weather but for those rivalry games who knows how many people we can cram into that stadium. I wouldnt be suprised to see crowds over 7,000. Best of luck against Tulane.

Georgia has a great ballclub and I know they will do some great things this year in the SEC and in the NCAA. Congrats on last years trip to Omaha. I hope we can see you there soon. That was our goal last year and will continue to be our goal. I expected a closer game on sunday im not sure what it really was. Maybe we wanted it a little more, or fatigue was a factor but they didnt look like the ball club i expected to see. Going in I was a complete wreck because i knew how much this game would mean. Im glad we won but best of luck the rest of the season, keep winning because it boosts our RPI. ( Even though it cant go much higher)

Hmm...I don't know, we'll be doing good if we can take 2 of 3 from your Tigers.

First of all.. the SEC's opening weekend is going to be INCREDIBLE, as the 4 teams who made it to Omaha last year play each other.. Arkansas vs. South Carolina, and Georgia vs LSU.

Arkansas is off to a fairly good start, going 13-1 so far after Tuesday's 11-7 win @ Oklahoma State. Most impressive wins were the OSU win and the sweep of Big 10 champion Minnesota. The depth in pitching helps a lot, as Okla. State threw their ace at us, while we threw a freshman in Josh Gilbert who did very well. Unlike a lot of coaches, Van Horn is keeping the pitchers on an 80-pitch count and holding them low to keep their arms fresh for SEC play. The strength of the team so far is speed. Arkansas, before the OSU game, was 32-37 in stolen bases, led by 2B Scott Bridges, who was 12-12, and after the OSU game, was 13-13 in SB. UA does a good job in making singles into doubles and setting up quick ways to score runs. The weakness so far is fielding, as UA is still young and committing a few too many errors, and has a fielding % of .968, which is fairly low. Attendance though is off the charts.. UA brought over 16,000 for their last 3 game series and is averaging a little over 5,000 a game.

Needless to say, the HOGS take on 1-6 Eastern Illinois for 3 games this weekend, and the HOGS should win all 3, though you never know in baseball. It'll be interesting to watch this season, and oh man what a sight when UA and LSU play on ESPN2 from Baum Stadium. I can't wait.

The way LSU is swinging the bats Georgia could very well win 2 of the 3 games against LSU. I am hopeing this comeing weekend when they go play Arizona State twice and Western Illinois that certain LSU players like Will Harris and Matt Liuzza get out of their slumps before they start conference play against yall their in Georgia. If Lsus offense does come around I think LSU could win 2 out of the 3 games against Georgia. Right now LSU suffered a tough lost tto Tulane 6-2 but I had predicted that earlier because I dint think with LSU struggling they could have beaten a Tulane team consistantly playing good baseball. Oh well hopefully when they play Tulane again in April they can beat them.

Sounds like Arkansas is off to a really good start and I hope they continue to play good baseball. With conference play starting soon against South Carolina, what do you think Arkansas is going to have to do to beat those guys and what is your prediction on how well they are going to do against them that weekend?

hopefully the Vols, 18-7 (3-3), will bounce back after the Ole Miss series (1-2, OM). Go Vols.
