Good thing the basketball schools in the Big East get to leech off the football schools. Otherwise they'd be making about the same.

Some of the BB schools add a lot of value to the brand and almost all were here prior to Louisville.

The FB schools get good pub and competition from associating with Nova, GTown, StJs, Marquette. I don't see the negativity on this post.

Besides how do the BB schools leach off the FB schools? The payouts are structured so the values closely align with the schools getting what they bring to the table.

The BE is enhanced by some of the BB schools. Others maybe don't help, but they are long term legacy members and deserve some respect for that.

He's a troll. You can't use logic like how the basketball TV deal is separate than the Football deal so their is no cross over. But what does he know, he's just a troll looking to derail a thread and start an argument. Can we please ban him?

If the Big East football schools did not have the basketball schools, guess what happens to its top three assets:
  • 1) largest or near largest population footprint - lose the basketball schools, and any remote claims the Big East has on NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, Milwaukee, Providence, and until otherwise shown, Philadelphia

    2) Best or second best basketball league - Take away Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, St. Johns, and others, and see how well thast claim holds up. Depth in the middle is the Big East's calling card. At best, the Big East falls to 5th just in front of the Pac 12 fighting with the SEC for fourth place. See how well that sells (and without some major markets already lost in part 1)

    3) Geographic quadrant of it's own with no other BCS conference - The Big East now has no geographical area to call it's own. It is bad enough with Syracuse, Pitt, and BC giving the ACC a claim to the area, but lose the NE ties, and the Big East has no geogrpahical footprint, AND has created a competitor in what used ot be it's stronghold. Again, see how well that sells on the open market.

Again, I like to use the term I first brought here that Frank the Tank has since popularized: this is the classic underwear gnome theory.
  • 1) BE split from basketball schools
    2) ????????
    3) More money for football schools per team

People assume the basketball schools are a drain, and those that play football or all sports would be better off without them. Yet no one has ever come up with any remote valid reason for it, epecially since they do not take any money from football, and in fact actually help the football value (tv markets), and they absolutely enhanbce the basketball value. **** doesn't work like that. There is a reason why West Virginia, Syracuse, Pitt, Miami, BC, VPI, all the teams that have actually left the Big East, never once voted to split from the non-basketball schools. They know they bring value to the league.
