Nobody here is disagreeing with you. Let's speak realistically with the issue at hand. This is about giving people drivers licenses to people that are technically eligible to stay here in the same manner as anyone with a work permit, whether you support it or not.

This kind of solves a problem that a lot of states have with unlicensed drivers. There are a large amount of incidences where unlicensed, and therefore uninsured, drivers wreck others and the damage is basically on the victim. Drivers licenses require insurance so that's a problem that's going to be reduced, in theory.

Having a license doesn't mean they have insurance. Remember, these people were criminals just a month or two ago.

Yeah it does, or at least at the time that you got the license. They were criminals a month or two ago, but they aren't anymore. It's a waste of time and energy and a major character flaw to treat them like they still are.

Legl aliens by an executive order overturning a congressionally passed law. They committed a criminal act and now it's being ignored. While I often agree with your posts, this time I feel you're clinging to a technicality designed to win votes in November. Passing a law today doent excuse what they did yesterday.

If I go to Mexico, I have to have insurance or risk going to jail, and the cops are stopping people who look like they are from the US. I don't need a Mexico drivers license to drive there. The same should happen for travelers from Mexico. What's the problem with that?

That is also the case here, but after a while there is a requirement that you get a local license and that's on both sides of the border. This is a situation where people are being allowed to stay for an extended period of time and the state only recognizes an foreign license for as long as it's valid. When it expires and those individuals are still permitted to stay, they need a new license.

It may be the first real progress I have seen in the almost 5 years I have been here.

It also speaks to a larger issue that would undermine President Obama's current energy policy and his administrations desire for a much higher cost for Gasoline. Maybe conservatism begins for almost everyone at some breaking point/cost level.

I don't have a fundamental issue with this. They are not here illegally according to current policy therefore they should be allowed to get a license. Also, if they let their visa expire, they should have their license immediately suspended and be treated like any other driver with a suspended license.

This is much ado about nothing. I don't agree with the policy necessarily but that doesn't mean we should treat all of the Mexicans like cocaine traffickers.

I agree with that. It's another reason why it's imperative to get another republican into office. However, it's not the fault of the people on work visa that this is happening. What exactly does it hurt for them to be able to get a drivers license?
