# Ole Miss star DL, arrested March 10, faces misdemeanor charge of domestic violence

OXFORD — Ole Miss star defensive lineman McKinley Boykin is facing an assault charge in Oxford stemming from his arrest for alleged domestic violence.

Boykin, 21, was arrested by Oxford police on March 10 and booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center at 4:55 p.m., according to police records.

Boykin posted an undisclosed amount in bail just after midnight on March 11 and is awaiting a court date on the misdemeanor charge.

Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron said he has known about Boykin's arrest but declined to discuss the matter in detail.

"I am aware of the incident and any action we take will be handled internally," Orgeron said.

McKinley is the latest Ole Miss football player or coach facing legal issues. Boykin is at least the ninth player or coach to be arrested in the past two years and the third since January.

Messages left at Boykin's home were not returned. Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone said he was aware of Boykin's arrest but referred questions to Orgeron.

If convicted, Boykin could face up to six months in jail and up to a $500 fine.

Boykin, who is recovering from offseason knee surgery, has attended the team's spring workouts but has not practiced. Boykin was twice named Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week last season and finished the year with 38 tackles, including 91/2 for lost yardage.

Orgeron is dealing with other legal matters within his program.

Assistant coach Joe Cullen is scheduled to appear in Oxford Municipal Court today to face a misdemeanor charge of public drunkenness stemming from his March 3 arrest in Oxford.

Cullen has not participated in team functions for nearly a week. Cullen's arrest came five weeks after former linebackers coach Charlie Camp resigned on Jan. 29, a day after he was arrested in Oxford on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Orgeron declined comment when asked if Cullen had either been fired or resigned
