Heinicke - A Georgia State Perspective
I wonder why the reporter didn't follow up with: "Why did it take you half of the season to learn about Heinicke, when he was playing in your backyard?"

RE: Heinicke - A Georgia State Perspective
Things really worked out for Taylor Heinicke. Kudos to Bobby Wilder and crew for recruiting him. He's done a lot in a short span of time; definitely one of the most prominent non-ranked impact recruits in recent memory. Ideally our recruiting success will continue to serve us well in Georgia for years to come.

That article is a boatload of crap and shows exactly why GA State is one of the worse programs in FCS, if not the single worse D1 program out there. He said they recruit for when a QB would likely get playing time..... No wonder they suck $hit so bad. You recruit good players. Period. If they end up being better than what is on the roster they play sooner and your team reaps the rewards. Especially at the QB position. That philosophy might work at some positions but not at QB. At your most important position you always want to recruit and sign the best players you can get.

This might be borderline blasphemy, but they're so bad, I'm actually rooting for them in some situations.
Mr. Blue, I do have a question about your terminology for "boatload of crap" -- was it the article or the content that you found crappy? Reason I ask is because I don't think the reporting was bad, but maybe the responses were. GStateBen is actually a Virginia native and has the unenviable task of covering a terrible team. The guy has to be frustrated.
Some of their fans I could do without, but I think GStateBen is really doing an admirable job with PantherTalk. It's not his fault they suck. Just looking for some clarity as a journalist.

I'm with wildman--I went to panthertalk to revel in their struggles, but it's so bad now that I find myself hoping they get a piece of what we get to experience.

RE: Heinicke - A Georgia State Perspective
Wildman, he is defending their recruiting practices. That is why I say it is a boatload of crap. He is saying don't let revisionist history sway your view.... yet by talking about people who failed them at a position as the defense for not recruiting TH is flawed and revisionist itself. At one level I can understand thinking you don't recruit players at a position because you think you are loaded. But that is putting a lot of eggs in one basket don't you think? ODU keeps recrutiing QBs and good QBs even with TH on the team. Look at what happened a few years back to WisM. You can just never have too many QBs on a team. David Washington on ODU's bench, redshirting this year, is a very good QB - at least what he showed in the scrimmages this summer. The kid we got a commitment from Texas is higher rated as a HS SR than either TH or Washington were. You just don't stop recruiting good QBs. Period. A writer covering football should know this. So he failed his readers, by rubber stamping the coaches comments, as much as the staff has failed that school by putting a product on the field that sucks so bad.
You are a wrestler. What if the best wrestler in HS at a particular weight comes along ODU's radar and might be interested in us. But we already have a potential All-American at that weight. Do we not recruit the HS guy just because we have a stud already at that weight? I think the answer is NO.
P.S. How is your mom enjoying retirement?

RE: Heinicke - A Georgia State Perspective
TB,
That's all I was trying to gather. Obviously Ben felt compelled to write something for his following regarding TH, mainly because with all their QB drama and piss-poor coaching down there, some of their fans wanted answers as to why the local kid is wrecking shop for another start up in the same conference. I mean, as of now, we know why we were losing kids to UVA and Tech, because they were bigger programs. For Ga. State to lose a prospect like this, I think people were looking for someone to blame, at least for a momentary deflection.
I think you've made a good enough point regarding the writing of the story that I can agree. I think Ben does an admirable job with absolutely nothing to work with during football season.
