Changes on Defense
A couple of changes on defense for this week against Richmond per the depth chart.

Andrew Everett now starting at DE, Alex Arain is the #2
D. Guinn-Bailey now starting at DT, Erik Saylor is the #2
Craig Wilkins moved from MLB to WLB
Caleb Taylor is now starting at MLB

All other starters appear to be the same on defense. Maybe this is a message to Arain and Saylor and the way Caleb Taylor has been playing he needs to be on the field more. I have a feeling that if Andre Simmons gets into the game and makes some nice plays he will be starting soon as well.

Good moves.
The message sent re Arain and Saylor is necesasary.

What I have seen and heard of Caleb Taylor is that he is a superior athlete that needs experience. Well..now he is going to get that.

RE: Changes on Defense
This is long overdue. Coaches should put the best players on the field. If Andre Simmons makes as much of a difference as Wilder thinks, he should start too. I don't feel bad for those losing their jobs. That's what happens in competition. Kudos to the staff.

RE: Changes on Defense
Competition be damned....the D gave up 61 points. This is a good message stating that kind of performance and idiotic penalties will not be accepted.

Saylor can play, but makes stupid penalties. DGB is very good though. I haven't been impressed with Arain at DE though. Taylor made a heck of a play on special teams, hopefully that transfers over to MLB. Wilkens never seemed comfortable at MLB.

How us it long overdue when the defense was fine for 3 games?

From a points allowed perspective this season, yes. From a penalties committed perspective we're #116 out of 121 teams for the season. That's horrific.

RE: Changes on Defense
I may be wrong, but in 3.33 years, I cannot recall a single instance where an opening day starter has lost his position, save for injury. Yet we've had several individuals who've accounted for the lion's share of negative plays (i.e., personal fouls, missed assignments). Depth chart changes send the message that performance is paramount. Years on the team & place in some hearts have nothing to do with production.
