Tom DeLay compares himself to Jean Valjean
DeLay was convicted in November 2010 of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering for helping illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002. He hasn't been sent to prison yet as his case continues to go through various legal circles in an effort to be overturned.

He says Ronnie Earle is his Javert, wrongfully pursuing him for a minor offense.

For those of you who don't know Hugo's classic, Valjean is the protaganist in that novel. He has a 19-year-long struggle with the law for stealing bread, so he could feed his sister's children (5 years for the theft, 14 years for four attempted escapes and two years for fighting back during one escape attempt. Javert is the policeman who pursues Valjean for two decades. Great book and an even better musical. A new movie musical comes out on Christmas Day and will probably sweep most of the Oscars next year.
