Meanwhile in Statesboro
A friend of mine tells me that the students of Georgia Southern have voted yes on a fee increase that provides for stadium expansion and a move to I-A.

Do you think ETSU could borrow Georgia Southern's students for a semester?

I think the Big 12 currently has 10 teams and Mountain West may be down a few as well.

They probably didn't use The Paul Stanton Intercollegiate Athletics Consultation Services, Inc.

CUSA likely has no interest in Statesboro. Georgia Southern knows that its only realistic home in FBS will be the Sun Belt.

That's if the Belt wants to expand right now.

You get the school you work for. If ETSU wants to bring back football and fund it properly, start making a case for it. But I'd be really quick about it.

Georgia Southern, Appy, and JMU are sitting there looking for an upgrade. If the Sun Belt announces that its looking for 2 more, watch those three schools fight to get a bid. Liberty, Lamar, and Jax State are too (but won't get anywhere). Delaware, Missouri State and Sam Houston State might also be moving in that direction.

Georgia Southern is really helped out by the fact that Appy is still out there. I'd be really worried about Georgia Southern's vote if I were JMU.

But eventually, the NCAA is going to shut the 'move up' window again.

I wonder if those 9 schools could form a new FBS conference on their own?

If GSU moves to the Sun Belt, would that conference take all of their sports or would they just take football?

If they only take football, would GSU be forced to move (return) to the ASUN?

I think the Sun Belt wants full membership or not at all. That's the boat New Orleans is in.
They'll take Ga. Southern, then App will move. The SoCon is fixin to get gutted.

RE: Meanwhile in Statesboro
It's not over yet. The BOR will be a simple rubber stamp that may very well happen at their homecoming, the other step is a conference has to invite them in. I'm sure the Sun Belt will happen for them, but nothing is official until it's official. The stadium expansion will happen for certain, but according to this, the 75 dollar fee is contingent upon getting that invite.

Looks as if they will now surpass ETSU in athletic spending. Note the total number of students that voted. They obviously did a little better job COMMUNICATING to their students than ETSU did with its student vote. There are those who do things right and there are those who screw things up.

They can't. NCAA rules require any team wishing to enter FBS play to be sponsored by an existing FBS conference.

Otherwise, you could see the CAA, the OVC, the MVC and perhaps the Big Sky to all announce they were moving up en masse. The NCAA doesn't want that to happen.
