Ever stop to realize we are the reason the refs have targeted us? There is no reasonable way to defend the way we've played this year. It's embarrassing.
Don't blame the refs. Blame the players [gasp].
The game should be called straight up. A team's rep shouldn't allow the refs to call the game a certain way and allow the refs to LOOK for penalties all over the place.
The penalty discrepancy was insane......did you even watch the game?
There was a player, #26 of UR that was getting away with murder. No question about that. Some of his crap happened right in front of me. The refs actually spoke to him twice; but no flag.
That said, I don't think there is any sort of directive from the CAA, but I DO think some of the refs may be personally biased against us, either consciously or subconsciously, and for whatever reasons, at least those in Richmond.
I wasn't aware of it so much in the UNH game, but I have heard others complain, including a formal request for clarification from Bobby Wilder.
I haven't watched the UNH Tivo yet, but there was one play right in front of me that I would have called PI on an ODU db, and there was holding on both teams in pass protection that wasn't called either way.
In Richmond there were some weird calls and no-calls; including a horse collar, at least two "launches" at Heinicke when he was already in his slide, and numerous obvious UR holding no calls. There was a smack to the face on ODU that was a good call.
The Richmond game was weird. #26 seemed to get a bye when he should have been ejected. They called holding on us, but in the exact same situations, left UR alone.
Yeah, i noticed the same thing. There were some really weird calls Saturday. I was sitting on the RU side with a few Of their fans (really cool group Btw) when one of their players threw a couple of punches at one of our players after the play. The RU fans immediately get frustrated and say he gonna get ejected, but instead the ref physically grabs him and leads him over to the sideline. Meanwhile the player is still jawing off and trying to get away from the ref. It took another RU player intervening to get him off the field. No flag. I have never seen that before; except maybe in high school. And I won't even mention the phantom false start on the last drive.

Just an observation, but this football team gets criticised in masse for winning, yet it is taboo and the same people get overly defensive when the basketball team is criticised for losing.

It's a pretty interesting dynamic going on at ODU right now in that regards Ever, Blaine's team could be looking at one of our worst 2 year stretches ever when you consider last year and what could happen this year in his tenure as our basketball coach and some people still get super offended when you dare suggest he may in fact have some weaknesses as a coach.
Wilder has literally built a program from scratch into a national championship contender in 4 years and there are a lot of hyper critical fans.
I myself have criticized the defensive coordinators on this board and would do so again if we give up 61 points again, but when our offense sputters out and is utterly unwatchable at times on the basketball court, it's off limits to mention Blaine's teams have never exactly been offensive dynamo's.
Way of the world I guess. And for the record, I'm not trying to get into any sort of bash Blaine or defend Blaine discussion, just pointing out the weird double standard that some ODU fans (not all obviously) seem to have for the two programs.
