His view (and the view of many people) has nothing to do with performance on the field. They're hung up on tradition, something we really don't have a lot of.
Even in an age of constant talk of realignment and multiplatform media deals, college football is still more about traditions than any other major sport. Always will be.
Its not really that, it is about money - with the tradition comes the money. OSU/Michigan is worth more to ESPN than say, UC/UoL. It is that plain and simple. These smucks at ESPN are just beating the company drum; trying to drive up the value of their company. Heck Herbie probably has options.
No, traditions matter greatly. Established schools have all kind of little rituals and symbols that reflect their pride. Traditions with their ands, rivalries, colors, everything. Thats what generates the big revenues, fans willing to pay thousands for seat licenses, etc.
Did I not just say the same thing.
Sort of, but not quite. The traditions matter even if there is no money in them.

The Big East has to stop looking for vailidation from ESPN and its paid employees. I live in Houston and I am not a graduate of U of H but I follow them. Everyone seems to believe that Texas A & M and Texas own this town. So untrue, stop believing the foolishness. Hint Hint, Uof H has the third largest campus in this state and it is growing. People tune in and are supportive. The Big East just needs to get its TV Deal done and put the finishing touches on expansion and postseason operations. Just because it started slow does not mean it can finish the race.

He did mention UC as great program that along with UL can find a better deal soon. it was near the end of interview.
Hope springs eternal.
