That is the whole point right there. and that is where the differences come in. It's just sad that common sense is no longer common.

We all want to be treated equally and have the same protections of the federal government. Well, how much does it cost each of us? Is $400.00 a week or $20,000 a year fair to everyone? More? Less? Whatever the amount every man, woman and child should have to pay the same amt for the same benefits and rights. That is factually and truely fair, right?

The only other way anybody can logically argue another "fair" way would be percentages, but, EVERYBODY would have to pay the same percentgages, no deductions, no credits. Then we could more easily agree on what that percentage of income should be.

Only then would EVERYBODY be interested in our federal budgets and how many hundreds of billions of dollars are being wasted each year. Why would anybody care if taxes are going up as long as they are not paying the same amount? Simple answer and obvious one is they don't. Ex. A DR makes $500,000.00 a yr and is taxed at 30% and pays $150,000.00 a yr to live in the great country. If the repubs lower the taxes on the rich to 28%... he still pays $140,000.00 per year compared to $0 for 47% of tax filers. What is fair and just about that? Nothing, yet all the dems want to say is "they want to lower the tax on the rich" as if to imply the rich are getting some kind of benefit...Really?

Several of us on this board feel the same way.

Does that include the people who go off to war to protect your @ss? How about police officers, fire fighters, teachers??? Are they squatters?

You can't possibly be so dumb as to think those people don't pay taxes.

Many of them don't pay income tax.

Actually I saw it on Huffpo.

I am an Obama voter and I have not nor ever wanted or expected the government to provide food or housing for me, I have never thought I was a victim. Romney is wrong...as usual. And you clowns believing he is 100% right just proves yet again that you haven't a clue...but keep thinking you know it all. It will be more fun that way 03-wink

But the main thing wrong with it is that Obama (or his PAC's) will use it to yet again make Mitt look like an out-of-touch rich dude.

You are so transparent. You may not be an Obama voter for those reasons. You are an Obama voter because you are African American, you know the 2008 demographic that 98% voted for Obama. You ARE the quintessential racial voter.

Sure they pay taxes but they also get deductions and credits which send them right back. I didn't even mention seniors. I'm sure stripping their right to vote would go over real well.

Well... This will NOT be good for Romney and his campaign. It's going downhill quickly for him. Not that I was likely to vote for him anyway, this type of thing being leaked sucks and makes me even more sure of my choice.

Only because it gives the media the opportunity to once again ignore the ME and Obama's failed policies. This will lead the news cycle the rest of the week.

Not exactly. Character is a major aspect of a presidential candidate and believe me that people see things like this and it makes an impact. Sure, the stuff going on is important too but someone spewing stuff out like this isn't likely to be taken very well by the average Joe McVoter.

I'm betting it helps more than it hurts with independents. The people it hurts with are the people who aren't voting for Romney anyway.

If they don't pay taxes? Yes, they are squatters. Used to be in this country you had to own a piece of it to vote. Now anyone breathing over 18 or not breathing for less than 5 years gets to have a vote. And yes, you should have to show you're a legal citizen of your voting district to vote.

If they don't pay taxes? Yes, they are squatters... .

What type of taxes? Payroll, income, real estate, sales... .

Romney was specifically referring to income taxes, which makes his statement especially dumb; because the only demographic group other than men that he has the lead with; is senior citizens. Many senior citizens only income is social security benefits; and for the most part those benefits are not taxed. So those folks don't pay any taxes.

Getting back to the point of the thread... anyone want to prove that what Romney said was wrong? I'll wager he probably got the %age too high.. but that's about it... but there have been studies that have given actual percentages of households that don't pay income tax.

Again, what was the number that has been reported in the past?? Top 1% of income earners pay 95% of the taxes in this country, top 5%/98% of the taxes , top 25%/99% of the taxes. (I forget the exact numbers off the top of my head).

And yes, the alphabet soup-media will try to spin this as the "important" news of the week.. instead of the important issues going on the world.

Romney was already going to lose. Now he's trying to ensure a blowout loss to Obama.

Mittens might just be the worst Republican campaigner in a very long time.

N O ! That's not the point. It's not the truthfulness of the figures, it's the truthfulness of what Mitt thinks of nearly half the population that he supposedly wants to be President of!

I'm watching Mitt double down on the statement. Intrade only changed 1%. Obama from 66.1% to 67.1%. I want to see the number in the morning.

Huh? So if the figures are true that doesn't matter?

Color me confused then...

Have the standards fallen THAT LOW for people we want in the most important office in the United States to lie, because it makes us feel good/bad (or gives political commentators some talking points?)

The problem is him losing the class of people that are Republican and don't pay income tax. I've got some employees that are always complaining about Obama and how their tax money goes to people on welfare and other countries. All I can do is think "last year, you didn't pay any income tax." He risks losing them, and they are diehard republicans. I have one employee that is on auto-donate to the GOP and she made $28,000 last year.
