I think we look ahead a couple. We need to focus on Tulsa
They gave a stout Iowa State team the business before succumbing in the first week.
Their other victories against Nichols and Tulane don't tell us much.
They have Fresno this coming Saturday which should speak volumes. And it's on TV so be sure to check it out.
If I'm coach I go somewhat vanilla for our second body bag game and really put a laser sight on September 29th.
A win over the always solid Hurricane would be very much a signature for the new team and staff and set up a series of competitive bouts.
Right now I actually see 4 wins, but if we take one from Tulsa I can actually see 7 from this team and a crazy bowl berth in a rebuilding year...
I just don't see spending a lot of physical or psychic currency on another game where we are guaranteed to lose, even if we start to win.
I'm not saying play to lose at OSU, I'm just saying that I wouldn't show Tulsa anything interesting filmwise and I'd have the players focused on doing the best fundamentally on each play vs. getting all up in the game with the jabber jawin' and such. Kinda be automatic and focus on the next play. Hey if that's enough to win then so be it. Focused and dispassionate. Ironically that's how Tulsa plays. They are like the borg. We aren't and are always an emotional team, but vs OSU we should be more like them so we can save up and be more like US when Tulsa comes to town.

I think that this is very much CGM's focus. I get the feeling that the season really starts for us when we hit conference games. What goes before is prelim, learning, preseason games.
Win the conference, rock the world!

RE: I think we look ahead a couple. We need to focus on Tulsa
Oh, crap, MB, you know damn well that's not what I mean. They all count, and beating Ohio State would rock the football world far more than winning C-USA would. (Oh how I hate Ohio State...)
Bottom line - we wanted and needed the Troy win, both because it was doable and for a bowl shot. It was also the teams very first game under the new staff and tere were a lot of bugs to get ironed out. USC and OSU - we want to win those, sure, but the stone cold fact is that we're getting paid to go be designated victim and pad their W/L record.
For UAB, come the Tulsa game, there is a season reset. If we kick butt through the conference schedule this season can still be a huge success. Not a moral victory, not beating an OSU, but a landmark season where we compete for a conference championship. That would be a helluva nice change for UAB Football, and we'd all embrace it.
Even you.

Let's put it this way... Southern Miss is 0-2, same as we are. One of those losses is to ECU, so they are 0-2, 0-1. I'd rather be where we are, 0-2, 0-0.
Is that clearer?
Or if you really want "The sky is falling!!!", we could be where Memphis is...

RE: I think we look ahead a couple. We need to focus on Tulsa
Although I'm not a proponent of looking ahead on a schedule, in this case, UAB's moment of redemption, a "second season" if you will, begins on September 29 when Tulsa comes calling, the Blazers first conference game of the season. But the first 3 games will do a lot, I feel, to shape the mindset of our team, their confidence has to be wavering just a bit, they've given it their all so far, overlooking your next opponent is not an option for them, because Tulsa by no means, is going to be a pushover, in fact, I totally expect a fight of immense proportions. When are we going to learn after all these years that absolutely NOTHING comes easy for UAB sports teams?
And in addition, has anyone here seen Tulsa's offense? Our run defense better be ready to bring the fight, because Tulsa has a QB the size of T** T**** (no, that does not stand for Tom Terrific) that likes to run a lot & a tailback the size of an ATV that runs like a friggin' motorcycle. The conference is very much up for grabs this year, and this is where UAB can get its' second wind and contend. But, I want them to bring the fight every game, I don't care if it's against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In spite of the early losses, all is not lost yet. Regroup and reload, Blazer Family. Ohio State is next on the "menu." Let's eat!!!

Conference season is a great opportunity to surprise the world (and myself) and snag 6 wins.
But quitting against an over-rated OSU will only be a harbinger of things to come.
Lets give OSU hell next week. Either take momentum with a win, or become more hungry with a loss, and fight for every other game this season.

Nice fandom, Goat
Your thesis, such as it is, is contingent upon us currently (i.e. RIGHT NOW) executing perfectly on all our vanilla plays. You are saying that we have all the fundamentals down and that we only tape ourselves down if we don't go with more fancy stuff.
Your thesis is wrong.
You are just being a tool, a space cadet, a whiney yeowly cat, and a dipstick bomb thrower.
Keep talking though. We enjoy your stupidity. It's entertainment.
Stick to the basketball.
I'm serious.

You are where Memphis is; that is neither team has any wins.

Sweety, we will never be where Memphis is in football. In football you guys are in a league of your own.

Well, when all appears to be even, look at the head to head matchup.

Is there anything that you can take from your early observations of the Memphis football team this season to indicate any kind of progress or possibility that they'll perhaps make a more competitive showing in conference play this year, or IYO, they're still "running in place?"
