I was just wondering how good on third down your offense is....I can't seem to find percentages of your 3rd and under 5 and 3rd and more than 5...I would appreciate knowing some of these numbers to get a better feel for the game...also what is your ratio of pass plays to run plays...Thanks a lot its gonna be a great game 04-cheers

I would take a shot that most of those third down fails come on 3rd and long. When you consider that most of them occurred in the USF (7 times) and in the 2nd half of the UK game, you could infer that a lot of penalties pushed us into tough 3rd down situations that we just couldn't convert. There are also about 4 or 5 times where we went for goal line TD's on 3rd down and failed.

When we can get 3rd and short, however, we are nearly unstoppable as our Big East best 52% conversion rate shows. Between Bush and Kolby grinding out tough yards and our receivers making those tough possession receptions to move the chains, we have a lot of weapons if we get into managable 3rd down scenarios. I rarely see short 3rd downs NOT get converted by a Petrino team, especially between the 20's.

I wouldn't count UL out of any third down situation. They have a solid set of receivers that definitely know where the chains are.
