It would be a huge hire for the SBC... Didn't he win the SEC west one year?

GSU has A LOT of money.... I'd be interested to see what they would pay him!

Would be one of the few hires that would raise eyebrows in this 24 hour news cycle town. Would do wonders for fundraising and recruiting. Best of all he's out of coaching this year so could easily be a Dec 1 hire.

Buddy, why is it essential that you get a retread?? Did you see how he lost that Ole Miss team last year??... They didint know whether to s**t or go naked..They didnt want to play for that guy...Hell they laid down against La Tech... It was almost funny.

He is a burnout.

IMHO...You guys can do much better.

Within a year he will be the joke he was at the end in Arkansas and at Ole Miss. He left Ole Miss in a mess. Wow...Houston...well he is a name but there are better coaches out there.

RE: Houston Nutt next GSU HC?
Watching speculation and then hearing the selection in GSU basketball and football over the last 6 years is interesting. No one in the speculation makes it to selection. I suspect that this will again be the case.

I had ask on panthertalk.com why he was not coaching now and only received a comment that he was announcing. From the discussion above it sounds like he does not have what it takes to run a program. We learned with Rod Barnes, a highly decorated basketball coach, that a name from past success does not guarantee future success especially when he parted ways with previous school for failing to win. Sometimes there are other factors but more often than not it is what it looks like: a well groomed hunting dog that cannot hunt.

Barnes has a so so run at Ole Miss and one good year. I don't think that is the same as coaching at Murray State, Arkansas and Ole Miss. Its a silly comparison. Not saying Nutt is the guy but whoever the guy is better be at that level.

Nutt was the last coach at Boise to post a losing record
He had some pretty good success at Arkansas but much of it with Danny Ford recruits. Arkansas paid him $3 million to leave.
Ole Miss fell off the table. Two good seasons to start off then two terrible years. Ole Miss paid him $6 million to go away.

My impression of him has always been that he can get more out of what he has on hand than the average coach but isn't particularly good at bringing talent in.

He had six 8+ win seasons in his ten seasons at Arkansas. He stunk it up after 2 good seasons at Ole Miss. He can win, but I think you're right in that he is average at best.

If Nutt is so damn good how come he is not coaching some place with a big name instead announcing.

Barnes my the way was a Nesmith winner and a SEC coach of the year so he had credentials.

Announcing is what college football coaches do while they wait for the next job. I am not saying that it has to be Nutt but it sure had better be a BCS OC, DC or former HC if its not. Period.

Barnes inherited a team at Ole Miss where he was an assistant and won 4 seasons before having 9 consecutive losing seasons at now 3 schools. Dude is still living off 2001.
