in the weekly Mountaineer magazine called bluegoldnews this week. Bascially said what we have been talking about since this website begain...but I'll give you the highlights because it made print. An all sports league will likely be formed at the end of the decade. Notre Dame wants to remain independent in football . Penn St coming back east is highly unlikely. Chances of Maryland coming are basically 0%. Expansion teams being looked at are (in no particular order) Memhis, East Carolina, UCF, Marshall, Southern Miss and Tulane. If the league decides there are more then one candidate will make them money they will likely go to 12 instead of stopping at 10. However in order for that to make financial sense the 4 new teams and the championship game will have to add another 50% to what the BE football school make (BCS money included)....which isn't likely to happen.....The author conculdes by saing that he wouldn't be suprised to see the all sports league just stay at 8 unless somone out there will actually adds money to the pot (which wouldn't be the case if we had to expand now)

I don't think there are any attractive candidates currently. Five years will give time for the better schools to rise to the top and make selection easier. Of course, if the Big East continues its decline it might have to add members prematurely out of necessity.

I think that article is about dead on. We have got to add at least 1, really 2 because the OOC is going to be worse when we have to play 12 games. Playing divII teams is just a killer all around from ratings to credibility. Do doubt Memphis, and/or UCF(Fla. presence) ECU(location & attendance). The only option really.

So Southern Miss makes four because they play good football and Memphis brings a bowl and great basketball.

Dear BE, no more good/strong basketball programs. Da Bulls need some time to develop and coach M will get us there just as long as you don't add another good bb program.

But Muhamad can. We did beat UC in the CDOA Tourney last year. We did show signs of improvement, but this will be an ugly first year in the BE.

BullSpit, I was going to say that. No freaking way I intend to trash Bulls basketball :

As far as expansion, we all have to ask ourselves one question: what's better: the ninth conference member who may not be quite up to BE snuff, or the low level program we have to scrape up due to the expanded football schedule?

Hey Army Mike, you might want to run to the CUSA board and let them know a new expansion thread has been started.
