USFBullSpit Wrote:Memphis is a great city, but as far as their program goes, I doubt they will take a football only membership. Their football program has 3 or 4 winning seasons over the past 40 years and their basketball team has a better shot at making the NCAAs being in C-DOA than in the BE. We don't have to worry about having another strong basketball program, actually, I think we need to tone down on the basketball side because we are too strong and it is going to take a while for our program to be competitive in the BE.
USF couldn't make the NCAA out of the Big South. Might not want to start throwing stuff around. With the talent you guys had there in the late 90s, you made how many NCAAs?

TigersRuleAll Wrote:There are so many inaccuracies in that post I don't even know where to begin. How about doing just a little bit of research before spouting off...to use your 40 year time frame, the Tigers have had 19 winning season from 1965 thru 2004.
I came up with 17 winning seasons since 1965 by my count, but close enough. Looks like the late '60's and early '70's were actually among the best times for the Tigers.

To make his point somewhat, it's 7 winning seasons since 1978, and with most of those 6-5 ventures (that explains the lack of bowls). 2003 & 2004 were the first times for a 7 win or more season since 1976.

Yea, those early 90s teams would go to a bowl in this day in age where everyone and their mother gets to go to one. Our football renaissance has started and sadly it was just too late for the first stage of expansion. Hopefully, we will have made more strides by the time the presidents sit down and do it all over again.

Would love to have the Tigers from Memphis in any shape or form.
They belong with UC and UL. They would bring the Liberty Bowl etc. If there is any expansion OR BREAK-UP they s/b first in line.

This makes me wonder if something I used to think might eventually be a possibility after all. That was a 10 team league with the current 8 football schools, add 1 team (UCF), and keep Notre Dame for everything except football.

The 7 Catholic schools could then add Xavier, Dayton, and maybe Detroit (or Saint Louis) to get to 10. A few posters presented some compelling reasons why the Catholic schools would probably stop at 10 instead of going to 12.
