Does FSU cover the spread (10 touchdowns)?
I don't recall Bowden running up scores in spite of having the teams to do so. I know I was always a fan of his (and FSU) and I despised Florida while Spurrier was HC so maybe I'm giving too much credit because this was Spurrier's signature, run up scores on body bag games and get more votes in the Top 25 while ceasing to plat anyone UF was not forced to play.

Anyway, does coach JF run up the score?

I give Savannah a 50/50 shot in the coin toss, but after that, I lean heavily towards FSU.

I hope FSU doesn't totally run up the score. Use this game like an NFL Preseason game and get your 3rd and even 4th string some playing time. With that said, are you going to tell a 4th String RB to run out of bounds when he's streaking up the field?

I remember Bowden being asked about running up the score. He said something like, "isn't it their job to stop us from scoring?"

FSU scored 69 last week. Savannah State gave up 84 points last week. I think it will be hard for FSU to score less than 70.

but it was called in the 3rd quarter.

This is one of the bad things about college football. I realize FSU had to schedule Savannah State because WVU backed out of their game when they went to the Big XII, but too many schools do this. What's the point of beating up on a school by 50 points. Do the fans like this? If the school does it to make money aren't they just using this as a money grab from the fans, as there is not much entertainment in beating up on a weak opponent.
That's the one thing the NFL has over college football is that there are interesting matchups every week and a lot of parity in the league.

I understand where you are coming from, but there is a flip side.

My former Battalion Chief's son played for SC State from '07-'10. He's said numerous times the games he will remember the most will be the ones they played against the FBS teams. He got to play in SC State's first ever game against a I-A/FBS team in his first college game ever (34-3 loss to Air Force in '07), play South Carolina in Williams-Brice twice ('07 & '09...he grew up a Gamecock fan), play Clemson in Death Valley ('08), play UCF in The Citrus Bowl ('08), and play GT at Grant Field ('10). They knew that they didn't have much of a chance in any of those games, but for 6 games in his playing career he was playing in the bigtime. He told me they loved playing those games.

Good point. It is nice for the big schools in the state to help out the smaller schools in the state by playing them. It will keep the politicians happy as well as keeping most of the residents of the state happy. It does give the smaller schools something to look forward to.

I think these mismatch's are good. It helps to work out some kinks in your armor and allows the coach's to see what his freshman look like for the future at the same time. It may not be fun for the fans per say. But these games do serve a great purpose.

Yes, I agree on that point but only when its the first game of the season. Whats the point for example, in Syracuse scheduling Stoney Brook as its 3rd game as opposed to being the first game. SU could have really used that tuneup game against Stoney Brook before they played Northwestern, and made so many really silly mistakes that ulitmately caused them to lose the game?

That's how I view it. I reject the notion that running up the score is unsportsmanlike. Now showing off to do it is, like say running a trick play on their backups getting some playing time. But my job as coach is to win, and if I can get my backups some solid reps running real plays, then thats what I'm gonna do. Thats what I like about rugby, its offensive to stop trying to score even if you're up big. If you don't like having the score run up on you, then quit or get better or learn how to suck it up.
