RE: ASU - Memphis
A team that has quit is easier to fix than a team without talent (see Arkansas State and Louisiana last year).

What kind of **** is this man?

A Memphis fan comes on here, and is one who is not acting like a narcissistic bully, and you respond to him like that?

Dick move.

Its something another Memphis fan said several weeks ago saying they will own CUSA and ASU has no shot this year. IT wasnt directed at that memphis fan. Just thought it would be funny since Memphis got beat by an FCS program but just a few weeks ago we were taunted by this one memphis fan.

Memphis fans have always been overly arrogant. Anything they get on here was done 10 fold to Sun Belt fans on their board. You would think that they are in the SEC to hear their fans talk. That has died down somewhat as of late due to their realization of exactly where they are in the football world (No, MT isn't much better right now). Any Memphis fan that comes on here should expect a little smack. A short trip to their board will tell you why.

So you think it's ok to 01-rivals-talk a guy not because of his views or comments, but simply because he is a Memphis fan? Your logic makes no sense in response to Paul's comment, and sounds like a hater sucking on a jeally-sickle.

Memphis and LaTech fans are normally the worst of the worst. But it looks like Memphis has finally toned it down this year. Very strange.

Read this thread and come back....I was not being a hater. I was poking fun at this guy that is now banned for what kind of smack he threw around here.

Yep, we are humping THEIR legs so much that they gave our AD spot on the television committee. Obviously, our market will give him a great frame of reference in that role, right? :sly: I do not think that we will lose to UH but if we lose I will show back up and admit that we laid an egg.

I understand. All I was saying is that guy in this thread didn't provoke any hate, another poster did. I wish you guys over here would stop acting like every jackhole who posts something stupid is indicative of an entire fan base. Just because one poster (or five posters for that matter) is arrogant doesn't mean they all are. If I wasn't in the habit of giving the benefit of the doubt I would say that
Quote:I Root For: LaTech
is more important over here than what I actually post. 03-shhhh

And this whole 'which conference is better' discussion is ridiculous. All that matters is what happens on the field. UH losing to TSU says a lot about UH and TSU and less than 2% about their respective conferences.

RE: ASU - Memphis
Just a few random thoughts as I prepare for the game this weekend....formerly known as the Paint Bucket Bowl.
[from Wikipedia]
Quote:This was the unofficial name for the annual football rivalry between ASU and Memphis State back in the 1950’s.

Officials of the two schools had decided to make the trophy for the winner of this game some buckets of paint and some paint brushes. The losing school also designed a particular area on its campus that the winner could smear with paint.

The idea was to eliminate the defacing of each campus and the “kidnapping” of opposing football players during game week. It evolved into the winning school being given a trophy from the other—a paint bucket decorated in the colors of the two schools and inscribed with the score.

Memphis State won both of the ‘Paint Bucket Bowl’ trophies before the series was temporarily discontinued after the 1957 game.

In 1949, Memphis St traveled to Jonesboro for our game that year. For the next 50 years, if we played them, we played in Memphis.

We were 1-AA from 1982-1991. During that span,we were 2-4-3 against the mighty 1-A Tiggers.

Memphis brags about beating us during the 90s and early 00s....but seriously, everyone beat us during that time. The move up to 1-A was difficult without the full support of the administration.

Worst loss: 68-0 in 1922 (played at Memphis)
Biggest win: 47-3 in 2011 (played at Jonesboro)

It's the nature of message boards. A few j@goffs (I can't believe that word spelled with an "a" instead of "@" is censored) representing a specific team insults another team and all hell breaks loose. It's all good everyone. Just relax and enjoy the games. 04-cheers

I think at this point most Memphis fans realize where we are...Larry Porter was a disaster of a hire...now the new coach only has 65 scholarship players...and a decided lack of talent...right now the plan is let the man recruit, invest in facilities, and use the Big East name and money to grow the program back to where it was from 2003-2005...a 7-9 win football team.

39,000 showed up to watch us lose to Martin...the people WANT to support this team.

RE: ASU - Memphis
Yes, I realize we are a joke of a D1A football squad at the moment but the UofM administration and boosters are trying to change that. If/when we get a modicum of success the fans will show up, as evident during the 03-06 seasons. We are way off of where we need to be, but with the investments we're putting in the football side and the appearance of an actual football coach for once, we're hoping to at least get back to respectability.

You aren't at 65. You might have 65 available because of some that are injured or red-shirting but you aren't at 65.

I know this how?

Because Memphis is FBS. The FBS rules require you award 90% of the division maximum scholarships over a two year period.

If you have 65 on scholarship and had 85 last year that averages to 75 and the minimum is 76.5 and next year if you were at 85 the average again would be 76.5 so upon entry to the Big East you would get a nice letter from the NCAA explaining that because of your failure to meet criteria in 2012-13 that you will be FCS in 2013-14 and in 2014-15.

I don't believe even the Memphis program with its spotty record of taking care of football would allow a mistake that large.
