LOL, I never said it was inside info or that they wouldn't join the Big East. I said that their fans want to go to the Big 12. BYU is going to pursue the Big 12 while we pursue them. It's a simple as that. Where they end up will depend on how many variables play out. There is no reason for BYU to rush either because they like their independence and it is profitable for them.
Ask UofL what it means when a fan base wants to go to a conference that has no desire to add you.

That pretty much has BYU written all over it. I'm down.
It could be ND or Army.

Spot on, Sir. The BYU talks with the Big 12 died the week following BYU's away game at UT- Austin last September. Pretty much public record.
Big 12 now totally focused on holding out for Florida State and/ or Clemson should they expand, which remains a big uncertainty. Dodds likes the idea of a big Florida school and Clemson makes the WVA add more geographically logical. Both school's cultures fit Big12.
That of course, may lead to further raiding of ACC by Big East or B1G, or of Big East by ACC. If nBE schools perform this season, and Aresco gets the TV deal we hope for, I'm betting the former over the latter.

RE: SHOCKING NEWS FROM ESPN!!!!!
Actually, I'm not talking about last September. After BYU talked seriously to the BE in late 2011, they went back again to the B12 earlier this year. Talks ensued for a long time, but eventually fell apart again. That's when AFA got bumped from the #1 to #2 target on the BE's wish list.
And right now, the B12 is not interested in taking FSU, Clemson, or anybody else. That will probably hold for a couple of years, at least, and perhaps through this new TV contract. And I would NEVER surmise that the BE could raid the ACC, lol.

The difference is that BYU already has a profitable home as an independent. They don't have to join the BE. They can just stay independent and work their angle of trying to get in the Big 12, even if that never happens. That's why I said we're chasing them while they're chasing the Big 12. I hope we somehow convince them to join, but it's going to be a tough sell.

I think you are overestimating BYU. Do you know that they were basically ready to sign on last year until church leadership stepped in and squashed the deal? You know that much right? BYU knows that the Big XII will not give them special accommodations for sunday play. That is a HUGE no go for BYU. You know that much right? BYU doesn't bump up the Big XII TV contract, especially not enough to warrant a slice of 20 million $ a year pie. You know that much right?
BYU's strength of schedule especially down the stretch of the season will hurt them getting into the new playoff and with only one possible bowl every year they don't make the playoff will make being in a conference VERY desirable.
If the Big XII wants to ride out 10 teams and the Big East wants a 14th team in the next year than BYU will have a ticking clock to make a decision.
