RE: A jersey Guy on BE commish
So glad we hired the right man for the job. Aresco knows what needs to be done.
Look at what a change in leadership has done for the Big 12. It changed the narrative completely. After losing NEBRASKA, TEXAS A&M, MIZZOU, AND COLORADO, many thought they were at death's door.
Their answer hasn't come close to replacing those losses. TCU and WV haven't made them a better conference. However, they changed the discussion.
The additions the Big East has made have had a transfomative effect on the conference. The BE hasn't had a perrenial Top 10 team since Miami left. It does now in Boise. Almost all of the incoming programs are playing at a high level right now, and the conference looks better top to bottom now as a result.
Aresco now has quantitative support to show that the nBe is a stronger conference than it once was. That's something the Big 12 didn't have.
And he's doing a fantastic job at directing the discussion.

Great article. Keep your fingers crossed on the Boise State vs Michigan State game Friday night. A win wouldn't hurt negotiations at all.

Yep. The author actually said two interesting things.

First, that Boise beating Michigan State could have a positive impact on our TV contract.

And second:

"Count on the Big East offices to add a New York City outlet to its Providence headquarters as well."

Did Blaudschun lose his job with the Boston Globe or wherever he was?

He's not there any more. Yes, he was with the Dallas Morning News for many years, and then at the Boston Globe. Totaled about 30 years between the two. I think maybe he just retired, but not sure.

Still a good writer, and he claims to have good BE contacts.

Very happy about that. It's nice to see some innovative thinking for a change.

Good article.

Like again how Aresco states that he will be marketing the Big East "aggressively"...and I think thats where the right TV partners can help.

A large payday from a network alone will not help the conf get publicity 24/7/365...Aresco knows that he will need help, a lot of help, from new TV partners to help promote the heck out of this conf...and that's a GREAT THING to see!!

PS. Another solid article from Mark B, aka jerseyguy

He does have good contacts...one of the best in the biz
He is usually very fair in his reporting on all issues with the Big East.

The new commissioner is such a breath of fresh air comparing to Marinatto it is not even worth comparing the two. I think this guy can really make a difference for the new BE going forward. BE presidents finally did something right for the first time.

Yes, BE is still the best basketball conference in the country. BE football has nowhere to go but up.

Good article and writer. This isn't the first read folks here have pointed to from jerseyguy.

I'm adding his site to my bookmarks.

Mark was the long-time Boston Globe writer that covered college football and college basketball...and has covered for the Big East for a long, long, LONG time.

Yep. He did some wonderful interviews over the years with BE folks. He was also the guy who interviewed BCU AD who clued what went on behind the scenes in the last ACC expansion. Basically, he broke the story that ESPiN told ACC what to do with raiding the BE and confirmed that BCU led the charge to block UCONN and got Pitt in the ACC.

I find it really weird to think of Mark Blaudschun as "A Jersey Guy" after he spent decades at the Boston Globe. By the way, he continued to cover the Big East regularly at that paper even after BC went off to the ACC, so yes he (along with Hoops Weiss) certainly has some of the best contacts in the conference.

Up till now I've been quietly hoping that BSU can pull off the upset against MSU. With all of the player changes this year, and with so much uncertainty, it's really hard to tell what's going to happen. But even if they lose, I'll be happy if they at least put on a decent showing!

But after reading that article, and the praise that Aresco is giving to Boise and it's perceived "National Brand", and it's potential impact on Contract Negotiations this fall, I'm hoping extra hard now for a BSU win!!!

Aresco has been talking up Boise big time. I really hope you guys can pull off the win at MSU. It won't be easy but it is a game last year's Broncos could have won easily. Like you said, we don't have a clue how the current bunch will do.

Boston College fans hate him because he tells it like it is.

I don't remember him at The Dallas Morning News, and I've been here since 1986.

After watching the spring game and fall practice, I'm excited and hopeful for this team. I like our chances against MSU. Still, this team is a mystery with so many new faces. And with so much potentially riding on this game, it is a bit of a worry!
