Charlie Strong can build a Winning program in Louisville, be it in the BE,ACC,Big 12,.What He does will probably affect Our future for the next 10 Years. A great record will position the school as marketable to TV networks regardless of conference affiliation. I hope He stays until He retires like Denny Crum did and what Rick Pitino wants to do.

Cincinnati feels the same way about Butch Jones. Of Course, we have had 4-10 win seasons in the past 5 years and 3 conference championships in the last 4 years and it hasn't meant a hill of beans. Plus according to the latest ESPN report Cincinnati is a top 25 television market (with neighbor Dayton in the mix as well).

RE: This is the problem with Louisville Fans/BIG EAST...
I guess I don't understand the logic of this thread - so every coach just wants to go to tradition and be paid big bucks? No one wants to establish a tradition of their own, leave a legacy anymore? That's basically what everyone is saying - no one has any individual conviction to turn down a job not right for them.

Boise State's Peterson has been mentioned for a few other jobs, yet he's stayed with the Bronocos and just continuously reloads them, making them a national power - not 30 years ago, but NOW! He's done it without conference, market, or tradition.

So is everyone here saying ALL coaches want the same thing, to work at an SEC school or a major institution like FSU, USC, Michigan, Ohio State? I think its a sad statement on college sports if we're debating coaches like they're draft picks, and all just blowing in the wind... no compass of their own to have convictions and establish a name, tradition, brand of their own that can stretch generations in this new century!

Nah, just a couple of "it's just not fair" whiners showing us what proud members of the Big East Conference they are.

Didn't you guys create a private Louisville board for your collective misery of being stuck with the rabble and muck of college athletics?

How quickly Louisville fans forget that they lost HOME GAMES last season to teams from the Sunbelt and CUSA (neither of them conf champs).

Missing the point...it about losing a coach not to a Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia, LSU or the NFL but losing a coach to a North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Illinois etc etc because of the conference status.

Also, yes we lost games to those schools yet still won a share of the BIG EAST Title and won @ the BCS Rep/Orange Bowl Champion homefield when the young guys got some experience and enter 2012 as the only ranked current BIG EAST School. Only Boise State is ranked in the schools that will be in the conference starting in 2013.

Very simple, the current BIG EAST programs could still fight off a challenge from a BCS AQ school...the programs coming from C-USA/MWC could not-(except Boise State/Peterson). It a new problem for us...a current program for the newbies...it is what it is.

I hate to tell you bud, but Houston and SMU don't fall in that category. I don't know how many times I have to remind you Louisville fans on this board, but you don't have the market on another class of school.

Our teams were in a big boy conference and big boy bowl games while Louisville was busy trying to accomplish 1 and 2 win seasons against the bottom of college football. We were producing top ten teams being broadcast on national television, while you were busy playing a bowl game that had been reserved for junior colleges.

SMU was a member of the SWC in 1918 and beyond. Houston was invited to join that league in 1971. That was when we considered our fight to join the elite over. Our conference broke down in 1995, not 1965, and we played for decades in this format. We are brethren to TCU, who was cast out from the Big 12 formation, not brethren to East Carolina and Tulane.

So can, we cut out this talk comparing new Big East members to less new Big East members? Unlike us, this is the most elite conference you've ever been in.

While I know most ignore Wilkie's insults towards the incoming Big East members, your mature response was very well stated.

Simply don't care to be marginalized any more than we already are. We're not "newbies". Some people are uneducated about college football prior to 2005, so sometimes it needs to be pointed out.

And you got kicked the **** out of the promised land, along with Rice.

Which is worse, to be East CArolina that never had a shot, or to be an ex-SWC school who had a place in the elite and couldn't hold it?

Unlike you, the teams that left didn't leave to get away from Louisville.

(Good case to be made that they left to get away from my Catholic b-ball peeps, yes indeed. But don't expect anyone to be impressed that you were in a power conference once-upon-a-time. So was Tulane, for all the good it does you or them.)

Southern Miss, ECU and Tulane were in the first proposed "Super Conference," Houston and SMU were not. Does that make those three programs better at this current time?

Sure did, Rice, SMU, TCU, and Houston were all cast aside. Know the story behind this, or what? Houston's situation was not at all like Temple's.

I like our spot much better, thanks. Especially if you knew about the background of the demise of the SWC and formation of the Big 12.

Quote:Unlike you, the teams that left didn't leave to get away from Louisville.

Sure, like Baylor and Iowa State were teams that the Big 12 would rather associate themselves with... 03-lmfao

Again, this isn't really the same thing here. Tulane left the SEC in 1966, while the SWC ended in 1996. Not quite sure how Tulane did when they were there either, but Houston and SMU were no pushovers in our league. I think you need to do more homework.

Didn't say anything about current time, but unlike that comparison, the majority of our fan base is still alive and kicking to give a crap about our days in the elite. Also, not quite sure about what conference you're talking about, but the SWC was something that had quite a legacy on college football.

I know all that crap being said on here by our new brethern from CUSA. But I will remind what you are saying about the ACC now, you were saying about the Big East last year. However, all the new members are coming from the 7th and 8th power conference to the 6th. You all are now attacking the 5th power conference, because the NBE is being called no better than the conferences they just left. We all know we should be in the 6 but it appears, we may have not made the cut. So everybody is testie right now.

Great post 04-cheers
