The CUSA refs were blowing calls all night. On a kick late in the game, a UTM player tackled the Memphis ball carrier. Even though he was CLEARLY down, the ball popped loose and the refs awarded UTM the ball deep in Memphis territory. It led to the game winning FG for UTM.

I should know, I was at the game. Not somewhere several hundred miles away being a smart-aleck from behind a keyboard.

Bully for you.

But please stop the silly blaming of the refs after losing at home to another hyphenated team most people did not know had a football program. It just personifies every argument that this football conference is mid major.

Own it. Your program is a hot mess and needs time.

Our program had 65 scholarship players at the end of last season, and the ones we had were marginal D1 players at that.

But unless you were at the game and saw the call, it's best that you don't make comments that make you seem ignorant.

saying he was clearly down is just being a homer. He was possibly down unfortunately there was no clear angle on the replay. If they had called the play down by contact, that would've been upheld too for the same reason. No clear replay.

In law and in sports, when someone says "clearly" it never is.

You weren't there so why are you commenting? FYI, the fumble was questionable as he was already on the ground (his butt was) when he fumbled. Plus the ball was wet from all the rain, even though the new field drained it all. But it shouldn't have come down to a last second field goal situation. The Tigers started out with fire in them but the long weather delay wore them out mentally and physically. UT-M is a veteran team and they knew they could ride out the storm and not let the refs call it. I knew that if the game was to be completed last night that Memphis would lose because of that, and they did.

It doesn't make any difference. We shouldn't have been in that position, anyway. But we really suck, so what do you expect?

To be fair, even the Memphis play-by-play guy, who is anything but a homer, thought the call would be reversed upon review. The replay I saw online looked inconclusive. That's life.

But Rath, you're just sniping for the sake of it, and it's not the first time you've taken shots at us. We get it, you don't like Memphis football being in the BE. Well, get used to it. We weren't invited for our football. We'll get better eventually. It's not like we haven't been competitive before. If you're gong to continue taking pot shots, w/o knowing what you're talking about, just buzz off.

It was a bad call, but we failed to win that game in many areas.

Hopefully we will get back full scholarship strength. It may take more than two years to get there. This is the third coach in four years, and with each coach's departure we have lost a lot of players. We don't have enough depth to be competitive. That is the most frustrating of all our problems.

RE: Memphis new mega video board
I wasnt able to make it to the LB open house due to being out of town, so yesterday at the game was my first chance to see the new video board in person. Even though I'd seen the pics (like in this thread) of what it looked like, it still looked bigger in person. It's probabably a case of where a camera is going to have a hard time giving the true perpespective of something that size. I thought I would be prepared for how large it was. We entered the stadium into section 116, which is almost directly across from the board. I was like, " daaaaaaaaaaamnnnnnnnn".

On the refs, I'm not going to blame them for losing us the game. There was stupidly bad missed calls on both sides. However, it is a complete insult to the game to have refs that are as bad as we have in CUSA. I can not wait to leave this freaking busch league of a conference. I know that every conference has their fair share of bad calls or bad game calls, but this is the norm in this conference. A group of masturbating monkeys could call the game better than what we see here.

I drank my share of New Belgiums finest in the place during the long weather delay.

Were you able to find an open table?

they sold a lot of beer during the 3 hour weather delay

To elaborate on that point, we currently have 39 freshmen, 19 sophomores, 26 juniors and 14 seniors (with most seniors being JC transfers). The 22 starters Saturday night had a grand total of 101 career starts and had only played in 205 total games. The 20 other players who got in the game had a cumulative total of only 27 starts and 108 games played. FOURTEEN of those 20 had NEVER played a down of football at Memphis. We are just behind the 8 ball in numbers, depth, experience and now having to adjust to a new coaching staff. Memphis has had good football before and we will again - the commitment is there and it's only a matter of time.

One thing that was quite impressive for Div I-AA Tennessee-Martin is that their defense, with just 3 Senior starters, held Memphis to just 17 pts.
