RE: 45,000 sold so far
there will be 50,000+ by kickoff and it will a helluva money maker....I don't believe an extra $15-20 a ticket keeps people away....hell that is only 2-3 beers at a game.

The only real question you need to ask is does that action make NIU more or less money in the long run.

My guess is it does not make NIU more money or they would have taken action.

45000 x avg ticket price currently > 61500 x (avg ticket price - 15 or 20 )
But like I said, it does not look like a marquee game if it is partially empty and you have the potential to lose sponsorship dollars. Also if we sold these games out we might be able to generate some more hype about these games and get better TV coverage and media coverage. NIU gets the first million no matter what from this game, we would hit that no matter what, might as well aim for the sellout and get the fringe benefits of that in addition to the million dollars.

You're making a lot of assumptions. My assumptions would be they make no additional $$ based on ticket sales from their sponsors or they are already in the highest tier.

Additionally any footnote in a box score or press mention is negligible afterwards. I was at the 3 overtime celtics v. bulls game 6 a few years back... i still remember it because of the thrilling game with a Joakim Noah steal and dunk in the 3rd overtime... not because it was a sell out.

Fringe benefits you speak of is a win on saturday.

RE: 45,000 sold so far
There will definitely be 50,000 tickets sold for this game. That is a success by any measure. Nathan is once again off his rocker in trying to make correlation to Huskie Stadium season ticket sales.

Last time I checked, 50,000 > 24,000 (i.e., seating capacity at Huskie Stadium).

Solid attendance numbers, a Big 10 opponent and a 7 figure payday for NIU. Win - win - win. End o' subject.

Would be nice if we won one of these SF games...might help increase future ticket sales to the venue and maybe get some folks to venture to DeKalb who don't normally for a game...

Well, he was talking about season ticket sales, not attendance at a particular game.

Hopefully its something that will be filed in the memory bank for next time. I think SF games hurt our season ticket sales also.

The SF game - for my family - got put aside so we could buy our season tickets. Last year having to pay for season tix at the same time we were paying for SF tix was brutal. This year we just could not do it. So, given a choice between SF game or season tix - we chose our season tix. It is just too hard to spend all that money all at once even if you try to plan for it.

I also don't care for having to jump thru hoops to get seats at SF - all the "points" crap. Just let people buy tickets on first come first served basis. Get your money in early - get good seats. Wait... and you get not as good seats.

Agreed. The timing of ticket sales is rough for a lot of people. SF tickets, season tickets, chairback or benchback options, annual HASF donation. That is a lot of money to pay at the same time. Plus, don't forget the CPC donation.

I have not enjoyed the SF games, particularly as we get our arses handed to us on a silver platter while paying a lot for tickets, parking, etc. This year, I opted to watch the game from the cool comfort of my living room, while increasing my HASF donation plus making a nice multi-year CPC donation. I don't think Athletics is too saddened by my move.

You may be all the wiser for your decision to donate, and stay away from SF rather than go home bummed out.

I will go to the game...enjoy tailgating...enjoy the CFB atmosphere...if we win it will be a great day...if we lose it will be what i expected to some extent...i will have either way...

I guess my greatest "problem" with games in SF is having high expectations and hopes stomped like an ant on a sidewalk.

It's tuff for me to go home feeling this experience was fun.

I'd rather cry in a $4 beer than an $8 one at the stadium.

Yep. We had a great time last year with the tailgating and being on the beautiful Chicago lakefront. Didn't enjoy the beatdown, but I didn't let it ruin my day!

Agreed, win or lose my wife and I will have a great weekend in Chicago. One of these days (and it could happen this year) we're going to win one of these games and I want to be there when it happens.

I remember after the game last year taking a boat ride to Navy Pier and mingling with a bunch of Wiscy fans. They were actually pretty cool and seemed to have respect for our program. We (of course) brought our bicycles with us and cycled all over the city on Sunday before driving home.

This year we plan to go to a Blues club on Friday night. How can you not have a great time in Chicago? It is one of the greatest cities on the planet and it is so fun to see Soldier Field decked out in Huskies colors and to see the Huskies play in that venue.

Come on it's alot better winning then getting your a&* kicked. A good game from both teams, I would agree.

actually, 7, YES...and even HELL YES....this ain't life and death it is a freaking football game. at the end of the three hours and 4 quarters, none of our lives are made better or worse by the outcome. the experience, though, can enrich one if one allows it to....it might take 40 years, but you will mature into realizing that sports are life's enjoyable distraction, not life itself.
