I wouldn't mind adding ECU at some point after the TV contract is completed. Of course I'd want someone in the west first but after that ECU brings a really nice fan base. Probably better than most fan bases in the 2013 Big East. And of course, like Memphis in football, I'd hope that one of the stipulations for membership would be heavy investment and an upgrade in basketball ... since the Big East basketball brand is an important part of the idenity.

BYU CAN foot the bill for being a Big East all-sports member...they have the LDS slush fund backing them up.

They're a small market team and don't move the needle nationally. Outside of the folks in that part of Carolina, no one cares.
Really? I think you're putting too much of an onus on one school. I mean the general justification for our large contract is the need for inventory on NBC, etc. If that's the major force, what does it it really change if you add anyone? How would adding ECU as opposed just the 13 schools change that?
ECU wouldn't add any more viewers. Look at the schools that were added. Almost all of them (not all, but most) were from top 50 television markets.
Greenville, Hattiesburg, and Huntington may be packed on game day, but no one outside those three tiny cities gives a damn.
Not to mention that ECU is built on smoke and mirrors. They won the CUSA title in 2008 and 2009, but have had six losing seasons in the last ten years. The last ten years they've gone 56-69. If we're going to add a small market team, they'd better be a heck of a lot better than sub-.500.
One more reply...
To say that ECU is built on smoke-and-mirrors is also absurd. Dear God, while Memphis was losing to Arky State (before Freeze, correct?) we were playing out of conference schedules that consisted of USC, UNC, NCSU, WVU, Miami, UVA and VPI; not to mention that we were also playing tough UL and USM teams. I'll never claim that we are the Boise State of the East... but give me a break; if you're going to ramble on against someone, at least know what you are talking about. You sound like the Obama/Biden team talking about ways that we can grow the economy: use empty rhetoric, twist the facts and then attack irrationally with the emotions of a hormonal woman.
Oh, one other thing: in 2009 and 2010, ECU had ratings of 7 or higher in the Raleigh market (higher than NCSU) and ratings of 5 or higher in Charlotte. Don't forget that we've also had nice deals with ESPN and MASN in the past.; we would not have got those if folks did not watch. We are not Notre Dame... but we get our share of interest; I'm willing to bet that overall share is better than Memphis's is to date.
Good luck this season; y'all should be improved.
There's a reason ECU was passed over again. You just don't want to see it.

There's really no need to read more into my post than what I wrote. It's late and I was having fun at another members' expense, that's all. I guess I'm not up with all the apparent trash talking between ECU and Memphis fans on bbs. That seems like it would be a pathetic read actually.
What we can't joke around here?
You're exemplifying my point, it's not ECU vs Memphis, it's TOGC vs ECU. Please leave Memphis out of it, he's a fan of the school, he does not, however, speak for the school or the rest of the fanbase. Every time he starts this ****, the rest of us get dumped on, I'm pointing it out before the thread degenerates into how ******* ****** Memphis is, we get it, it's a dead horse already.
You don't speak for the rest of the fan base either. I bet if you polled every Tiger fan about ECU they'd be closer to my opinion than yours.

So post a poll over there, and let's see.

If I posted a poll on who they'd choose between USM and ECU, I think it would be pretty lopsided for the Golden Eagles.

I meant for all 5 message board candidates: BYU, AFA, Fresno, USM, ECU.

Let's find out.

By listing those five plus a spot for "other", I'm guessing BYU runs away with it.

I didn't catch this thread before it devolved into a Memphis vs ECU, TOGC & Jerry Lawler vs Ric Flair & ? Ned Low? cage match.
Our fearless leader probably misspoke about the 14th team being an all-sports addition. But if he didn't, and we're still all about the markets.......................

Noooooooo U-Mass. Maybe in 10 years if they are dominating the MAC. I suspect they will need a few years to even think about that level of performance.

Yep. BYU has a big lead, and USM is a lagging second. No real interest in anybody else.
I don't know, maybe ECU is an east coast thing. We've been in a conference with them for a while now, and our fan base certainly isn't enamored with them, compared to other choices.

Just personal opinion but UMass will be in the Big East before USM or ECU. Won't happen for a few years until they get their facilities in order and have good football attendance.

I never doubted BYU would be a runaway winner with Tiger fans. Right now, USM has a pretty significant lead over ECU. Heck, even Air Force has one more vote than ECU has.
I made it a public poll just to see whether or not some other schools' fans were stuffing the ballot box.
Based on current results, it looks like the Tiger Nation agrees with me. No one really gives a flip about ECU.

After 158 votes, the percentages are as follows:
BYU 70.25%
USM 14.56%
AFA 5.70%
ECU 1.90%
Fresno St 1.27%
Other 6.33%
The Tiger fans have spoken. BYU is their runaway favorite. USM would be a distant second. Air Force is a distant third, but they still got three times as much support as ECU.
Tiger fans don't care about ECU. It's not just me.

"The people have spoken." Sounds so final, lol.
Predictable results, though, at least with the Memphis fan base. But I wonder how other schools' fans feel about different candidates. Not that anybody but BYU and AFA is on the list, though.

ECU received 3 out of 159 votes.
Fresno State received 2.
In comparision, Air Force got 9, USM got 24, and BYU got 111.
It seems pretty definitive that Tiger fans want BYU, and don't give a tinker's dam about ECU or Fresno State.
