Occupy City Hall
According to the El Paso Times, a group of protesters plans to occupy City Hall to protest the demolition of the building to make room for a baseball stadium.

RE: Occupy City Hall
Truly pathetic. Maybe they should've occupied the old Farah building as well because HEAVEN FORBID BUSINESSES MAKE MONEY. It's sad to see the culture of El Paso truly demonize and seek out to destroy success and prosperity. And people wonder why the youth and future move away.

RE: Occupy City Hall
The Farah building wasn't owned by the public. City Hall was paid for through tax payer money so it is understandable that some would be upset that it is being torn down at the whim of a few council members.

This could have all been avoided by a simple majority vote of the people.

This is what you get when uneducated people voice their opinion.

I made the comparison because the old Farah building was just as viable and worthless as the City Hall you are obsessed to keep standing. But that went straight over your head, as expected.

RE: Occupy City Hall
This morning Stephanie Townhend Ayala ( a famous local lawyer) came out on KLAQ explaining that she has obtained documents through the freedom of information act that show that the demolition of City Hall, it's relocation, and the subsequent building and up keep of the new stadium is going to cost the city of El Paso in the 100's of millions.

According to Ayala, she estimates that property taxes could rise as much as 40% in the next ten years to cover the cost through certificates of obligation.

She also said that the local Shriners are going to file a law suit because in those documents, it is clear that city council also plans to demolish the Scot Temple north of City Hall.

She claims to have obtained secret emails between government officials and the sports groups in which the sports group was coaching city council how to frame the debate and sell it to the public.

I want to see the documents. You should know better now that without a link on this site you're full of sh*t.

First of all, she is not a famous lawyer, she is an attorney that concentrates on wills. SHE CONCENTRATES ON WILLS, talk about somebody who is ripping off the citizens of El Paso.

Anyways.... 40%, that lady must be dumb as a rock, good thing she practices law in a field that is set in stone, otherwise, she'd get beat any time she walked into a real court room. There are over 400,000 properties in El Paso, the property tax increase is going to be less than 1%, if she could do finance math, she'd know it is 00.4% increase, not 40%. Somebody must have typed her notes wrong!

There is no such thing as secret E-mails, maybe you debbie downers are just a bunch of "conspiracy" thinking people, but every e-mail, from any city employee, personal or not, is public information.

If you debbie downers are pinning your hopes on this lady, you guys are a lot dumber and less educated than what I thought.

BRING ON THE STADIUM!!!

RE: Occupy City Hall
I like how "they" are trying to say the new stadium, alone, will cost 96 million dollars. This figure does not include the new buildings or relocation figures. They are trying to say the new stadium, alone, will cost 96 million dollars because the construction of the stadium will be 50 million plus 38 million in loss from not selling City Hall. Not only is that logic flawed, but it only adds up to 88 million. Crabs.

RE: Occupy City Hall
I think the media is making it sound like there is more opposition that there really is.

Susie Byrd had 100 folks at her community meeting. Eddie Holguin only had 30.

If there are thousands and thousands of people against it, they certainly didn't feel strong enough to attend the meetings.

Then you have Lozano (former city councilman), total dumbarse. He says the park won't fit in the lot. Cutting and pasting Cohen stadium pic over the City Hall lot. How stupid is that?

Home plate could very well be designed to be closer to the edge of the corner of the lot, than it is at Cohen. Stupid argument by Guzano Lozano.
