In this city? Ha. We've gotten more press for CBC retiring today than we did for the SBC move. It will have to be a move similar to UAB, Memphis, FAU...

Keep in mind most of those guys will be making 800K to 1 Mil a year salary at their current jobs.

That will have to be and will be addressed. Were McGee and Fuente making that much at Arkansas and TCU?

I still just don't see why you think we HAVE to have a 40 something from a power conference.

PS. Please oh please don't compare us to UAB or Memphis.

..or Ark State or FAU or FIU or Houston..the list goes on. Whoever it is will have to be someone who energizes the base and will have to be even more of a CEO/Politician than CBC. They will have to be making speaking engagements and kissing babies daily and at first multiple times per day. They will have to be constantly on the radio and local TV and your rotary club luncheon. People in Birmingham may not have known Garrick McGee but they probably saw Arkansas' pass happy offense. People in Memphis may not have known Justin Fuente but had probably seen TCU in a bowl game and made the connection. Same for Houston when they hired Kevin Sumlin who had been Oklahoma's OC. It is going to have to be one of those hires because otherwise it will pass unnoticed. The worse case scenario is that after CBC leaves we hire someone who makes the base zzzzz and $$$ start drying up.

You wont be able to afford a power conference OC without paying a considerable amount more then you are now. If you want power conferences, look at position coaches. That is generally where SBC teams find coaches. Its how ULL got Hudspeth, and WKU Taggert.

McGree was making 400K at Arkansas roughly. It was a very low salary for an offensive coordinator at the time. Part of that might have been because he had previously been a QB coach at Arkansas, and just got a small pay bump when they made him OC. The other part of it is that he was running Petrino's offense...not his own.

TCU was not a BCS school when Fuente was hired. In fact when he was hired many people didnt even know who he was, not to mention they were facing these stories about rampant drug use in the football team at the same time.

Nevertheless, two hires that have energized the base and where the newly minted HCs arebeaing the bushes for fans , dollars and recruits.

since ya'll are moving up maybe you need a guy kissing babies.

we needed a guy that could get athletes (legit fbs version) in here. willie t. is raw as hell. watch his interviews. picked his own team first last year. politically UNcorrect. but he's bringing players in now and everybody loves him.

willie's getting much better with his public speaking but i know the a.d. had to squirm in some of his interviews. i loved him as a player. nobody else would have given him a head job out of stanford. he was the RUNNING BACKS coach....by no means a bcs coordinator.

CBC will definitely be missed at GSU. The mood around campus is pretty somber, but people are generally happy to see Coach embark on this new journey in life. I have faith that our Administration will find someone competent to take the over.

Somber?

Has Bill Curry ever done anything in coaching at any level that would make anyone miss him?

Winning at Alabama isn't THAT difficult . . . and yet he didn't stick there even with the success . . .

Looks like a great opportunity for Georgia State to get serious about FBS football to me.

You do know about the brick through the window and the death threats at Bama right? He won SECcoach of the year twice and ACC coach of the year once as well as Bobby Dodd National Coach of the Year and is an Amos Alonzo Stagg Award winner for lifetime achievement. More than that he's the moral conscious of the sport. If you have heard him speak on NFL Films or ESPN films you know why. If you've ever met him in person one on one the shocking thing is that he is actually that guy. He casts a wide shadow in Atlanta. Yes the mood is somber especially since the press comference was somber.

That's because Bill Curry is more well-known than the program.
I'm not trying to start something, it's just the truth.
It is unlikely that you'll get a power conference coordinator unless you get one who needs a little reputation rehabilitation. BVG fits that mold or a guy like Mike Bobo is probably not considered a star OC and will need to prove he can be a head coach on a lower level before he gets a shot at a BCS-level job.
Don;t worry about the old title, just find the right guy. Arguably the best coach in the conference right now is Mario Cristobal and he was a TE/OL coach at Miami before he was hired.

All I know is he was annoying on TV, and he has an all time losing record as a head coach. Was just surprised that he evoked that kind of emotion on your campus.
