SWAT wrong door raid, shoots dog, handcuff kids at corpse
I'm sure this is far far worse than letting somebody smoke marijuana legally. 03-bored

Quote:"Defendants shot and killed the family dog and forced the handcuffed children to sit next to the carcass of their dead pet and bloody pet for more than an hour while defendants continued to search the plaintiffs' home."

One child "was kicked in the side, handcuffed and searched at gunpoint," the family says.

Another child, a girl, "a diabetic, was handcuffed at gunpoint and prevented by officer from obtaining and taking her medication, thus induced a diabetic episode as a result of low-blood sugar levels."

Shawn Scovill of the taskforce may have raided the wrong house, but he didn't want to let the opportunity to rifle through someone's things go to waste. So he and his team ransacked the Franco house for over an hour, and managed to find a .22 caliber pistol in the "basement bedroom of Gilbert Castillo," which the suit says they attributed to the head of the Franco household, Roberto Franco. According to the suit, Franco was convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm, and remains behind bars. (If anyone can weigh in on the legal loophole that might allow evidence seized during a wrong-door raid to be used in court, please fill me in. ...)

Remember that thread where Drew said, "I trust the government"?

Yeah, makes me chuckle, too.

accidents happen...that's why the courts exist...if the police violate your rights, take them to court.

Wow. It's like I said your name three times or something.

Getting a financial judgement from some municipality ain't bringin' the dog back, or un-traumatizing those children.

Well not everybody can match the police's nearly unlimited resources like you. So keep depending on the courts for justice. Meanwhile the lawyers will love bleeding you dry and f'ing you in the ....

Shouldn't have to rely on another branch of government to make sure the other does their job right the first time.

What is going to happen is that cops are going to die doing this. Someone is going to kill the hell out them for B&E. The drug war not only endangers the citizens but officers also. Just how many more times must this happen before we come to the realization that prohibitions cause more problems than they solve? Free men should not have to have permission to do ANYTHING that does not violate the principle of non aggression.

This. I know that nobody is supposed to be in our house after we lock up for the night. I have a gun for protection. If someone breaks in I don't have time to call and check and see if it is the cops...I have to act. I could easily see a situation like this where a officer is injured or killed. And in that case I am sure it wouldn't have "just been a accident" when the citizen is arrested for defending his/her property.

Yep.. I can see it coming... and then the shooter's going to get killed by the rest of the cops involved.

I guarantee you, someone breaks in my home, I'm shooting first and asking questions later..
