Blog: Medal count for ACC football since expansion.
http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/.../308120013

Quote:Since it’s an Olympic year and the last year before another Atlantic Coast Conference expansion in 2013 when Syracuse and Pittsburgh are admitted, it seemed appropriate to consider a view of the football standings in the ACC, compiled in each of the seven years of division play.

The first thing you notice is what you already knew, that Virginia Tech, the school that the ACC originally wanted to leave out of expansion plans, has dominated the conference in football. If they renamed the Championship Game the Hokie Invitational people outside of Blacksburg, Va., would howl, but it would make sense.

RE: Blog: Medal count for ACC football since expansion.
(1) I love this idea of a medal count for ACC football - it really shows which teams have sustained a high level of play (basically VT and no one else) vs. those who occasionally pop-up in the top spots.

(2) Calling the ACCCG "The Hokie Invitational" is a bit on the arrogant side, don't you think? We Hokie fans need to be humble - at least until we actually win a National Championship (then you can boast if that's your style).

(3) It's worth noting that 3 teams - UNC, Duke, and NC State - have not even finished in the top 3 since 2004. Wow! Duke gets a pass - it's just "Duke being Duke" - but UNC* & NC State need to step it up!

* if they ever get off probation, that is

To your number 2 point. This was written on a Clemson blog. It wasn't a Hokie that said it.

I thought it was impressive that 9 teams had finished with a "medal".
