In all honesty, I hope Charlotte plays horrible teams OOC our first year in C-USA, with no intent to be bowl eligible. I don't think anybody (even ECU) in C-USA would have good attendance after a 1-10 season with 9 30+ point loses. Our alumni will show up, given that their are just so few seats for so many that want them, but if we are horrible our student section will be empty, as basketball has shown us the last few years.

Just don't whine about it like USF did 03-razz

Well we did ok during the JT era... but if he stayed into a year 3 then.... there could have been a fire at DF and noone would have noticed!

Our low point in attendance during the Thompson era was 29,629, which would've been 3rd place in C-USA last year (behind UCF & Houston).

However, the point is that redshirt freshman with some transfers thrown in are going to be challenged to compete right out of the gate. There is a huge physical difference between a kid with 4 years of college weightroom training and on-field experience and a kid with one year of the weights and no college experience.

However, it will not take long for Charlotte to compete - if they can keep the fans excited and engaged, and see improvement year over year. One advantage UNCC has is that the announcement to FBS should help with recruiting out of the gate, as it has helped ODU since the announcement. Your admin visited ODU when looking at adding football, and I would recommend our model of scheduling and annual program improvement as a fast track to success.

Good luck!

Charlotte A.D. officials did visit ODU, but also visited a number of others. In fact, Coach Lambert has referenced UTSA's Larry Coker much more than anyone else that he has worked with since coming to Charlotte (and of course Jim Grobe @ Wake Forest).

And that's no different at most programs. Three straight really disappointing seasons will do that to most programs with the exception of the really big time football programs and a fairly rare few others. When fans see no hope of improvement from 1-3 win seasons, actual attendance will nosedive even if the season ticket numbers are respectable.

I can't say I didn't LOL at the teams on the schedule but then again I know nothing about FCS so I really can't even comment on how good a competition any of these guys really are. Then you factor in Charlotte, itself, will be start up.

ECU fans may not know much about FCS schools, but they should know all about D2 schools since they have several on the basketball schedule each year. Campbell should ring a bell too.

In all seriousness, I am glad to see some ODU fans speaking up about our schedule. I would be very happy if we had the success they did over the 1st few years of start-up. You have to schedule some winnable games for a start-up team that will have RS freshman, Freshman and some transfers/ Jucos. You don't want to ruin the momentum of starting football by going winless. I think our schedule is balanced, and has enough cupcakes, and a few challenges.

Some additional challenges with scheduling have come up with the announcement of moving to C-USA after only 2 years. Some of the FCS schools we have signed up for H-H's with are now gone, because either A) We won't travel to an FCS school once we are FBS or B) the FCS school now wants to get paid to come play us in 2015 and beyond.

Probably but there is a difference in losing an ineptitude. JT was ineptitude. That is why the ax had to fall before year 3.

Not bad. 5-6 would be decent, but I believe that Wesley College should be moved to the Probable Wins category though.

WHile all the new schools will compete eventually, ODU has a head start and should be competitive sooner than our comrades from charlotte and san antonio.

lol ok guy.

ODU had a similar schedule in our inaugeral year, and finished 9-2. Our losses were to middling Fordham and Monmouth. Our second year, we improved, eliminated the 2 D-2's from the schedule, and nearly beat WM in Norfolk. We finished 8-3 that year, and losses were to a good WM team (home), a decent Cal-Poly team(home), and a decent Jacksonville squad. Last year, the size of our boys was finally comparable to other teams that we faced, and we rolled through the CAA with an away loss to Delaware and a home loss to Caa-champ Towson. Won the first-round playoff game and lost at Georgia SOuthern in a shootout 55-48. Ended up 9-3.

I like your schedule, it should build confidence. However. size and depth matter, and I see little difference in the challenges UNC-c will face vs what ODU faced three years ago. To say you will compete in less than 5 years if a possibility if you build the program correctly. To say you are coming into Norfolk in your first season and defeating ODU (or starting at the same level) is ludricrous.

Enjoy the ride, it will be great fun, and I expect a spirited rivalry. But please try to hold up your end of the bargain, unlike Georgia State and unlike your basketball squad in our most recent H/H. Hope you can make it to ODU's homecoming game in 2013 when your team visits. We always appreciate opposing fanbases that make the trip to Foreman Field, and will treat you guys to a great tailgate and atmosphere.

Smitty, your contention is shortsighted. Neither of our programs are close to being at the tip of their respective icebergs. The minute advantage ODU has over Charlotte now is petty to be talking about. It's like a 4'0" 7 year old bragging to a 3'7" 5 year old about being taller.

Not much disagreement here, other than the size/strength of the kids in the program when the teams enter CUSA. Their team will be "younger".

I am fully confident that UNC-c will develop the program very quickly, and am excited about developing a good rivalry with them.

Looks like a good 1st year schedule for Charlotte, some challenges and some winnable games. I won't venture to guess how well they'll do without having played a down. Nobody predicted ODU would be as successful as we've been and there's no reason Charlotte can't meet the same success.

I'm very excited about playing Charlotte in the future, it'll actually be closer to where I live than Norfolk.

As for our transition to FBS, well I think we're gonna keep kicking *ss and taking names, and I'll eat crow when/if the time comes but after three seasons of under estimating our program, I'm done.
